Customer Service Manager II Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Lewisville, TX

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Waste Management in September 2012.

Interview Details – I was called in for a second interview and was given positive feedback upon departure, I was told as I was leaving the second interview that I should expect a call back by the end of the week. I sent a "thank you" email to my interviewers who quickly thanked me in response and again stated that they would be in touch shortly. 5 days after the 1 week time frame that was given to me in the second interview, I sent a friendly email to the recruiter that contacted me for the interviews and she told me, "Hold tight! We will be in touch." As of 2 weeks later, I have still heard nothing and I just discovered that they have posted the same job today as a brand new posting. Horrible communication! So unprofessional and inconsiderate.

Interview Question – I was led on and they never gave me the common courtesy of an update of my candidacy after I wasted hours of my time on phone interviews, multiple telephone calls from their recruiter and 2 in-person interviews.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Waste Management in April 2010.

Interview Details – Before I got hired I was told that I would be making $14.00 a hour but instead I started out with $12.00 and made it up to $13.00 a hour. It would be ok if you pushing 60 or more hours a week to make ends meet. Over all it was Job security.

I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Waste Management in June 2012.

Interview Details – From the time of application and response for an interview was rapid and I was grateful to get any response. The interviews were divided up into alpha sections at designated time slots. The interview was pleasant and direct. Afterwards I felt the interviewer really liked her job and show a great deal of pride in the company. It was refreshing.

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Waste Management in November 2011.

Interview Details – After applying online, it took a couple of weeks for a telephone interview with an HR person from headquarters in TX. Subsequent to that I was scheduled for an in-person panel interview with 3 senior executives: Regional Sourcing Manager, VP Controller and Purchasing Director for the region. I found it to be the most intimidating and diffucult interview I have ever had. Difficult questions were asked, mostly pertaining to how to deal with personality conflicts and difficult people. My impression is that this particular Purchasing manager was very difficult to work with. He was cagey about compensation, only offering up that his people were "well compensated" but worked "very very hard." I came away from the interview with an unfavorable impression of the workplace there and was not surprised that the position was filled by another applicant.

Sales Representative Interview

The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Waste Management in August 2011.

Interview Details – Contacted by GM who thought HR had already spoken with me, when they had not. 2 hour 1:1 interview in a casual setting with role playing questions- very odd. The interview was far too long to be anything close to productive.
Was asked to present a PowerPoint on " my attributes". My submission was barely acknowledged. I followed up dutifully to be told the position was being " re-upped" and I am in running. I received a thank-you but no thank-you from talent acquisition unbenounced to the GM an hour later. A hiring freeze was in place through 2012.. Funny, they seem to be hiring old cronies from Allied Waste without regard to freeze.

I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Waste Management in May 2010.

Interview Details – Two guys interviewed everyone at our school that got their resumes selected (maybe 8 people). They were really cool and kinda geeky guys. The interview was a mix of technical and behavioral. They selected two of the 8 to work for the company.

One of the interview questions I remember was is it better to increase price by 1% or increase customer base by 1%.

The process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Waste Management in June 2010.

Interview Details – Phone interview and then face to face interview. Company did not say industry experience required, but moved forward with someone that had "relevant experience." Company kept sending emails saying position had been filled, even after I was verbally told that I did not get the position. Job itself sounded good with good salary. People were friendly.

I applied online and the process took 4 days - interviewed at Waste Management in May 2010.

Interview Details – Upon arrival I was escorted into a little room where I sat for quite a while waiting for the Manager. She apologized vehemently and I was ok with it. She talked a bit about the job duties and asked me basic interview questions. She also walked me around the office which I thought was a nice touch!

Upstream Project Specialist Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Indianapolis, IN

I applied through an employee referral and the process took a day - interviewed at Waste Management in March 2010.

Interview Details – I was referred by my current manager to the local Waste Management on-site Project Manager at the company where I currently provide other services. There was an Upstream Project Specialist position open at an area manufacturing facility. I sent my resume to the manager at that site, and got a call to schedule an interview from corporate HR a few weeks later. I was interviewed by the site Project Manager and Regional Sales head. The interview went very well, and I also submitted a paper I prepared that detailed the job requirements and profiled my personality, experience and skills to show how well I would do in the position. I received a verbal "Very well done" at the end. I was told I was one of 3 being interviewed. I sent the appropriate thank you cards. I left feeling very positive about my potential.

TO DATE (going on 2 months), I HAVE NOT HAD ANY CALLS OR EMAILS TO TELL ME THE STATUS OF THE JOB. I had waited the appropriate 7-10 days to beginning asking of the status, and repeated calls and emails to first HR and then to the site Program Manager have been COMPLETELY IGNORED.

To say the least, I am highly irritated. OK, I understand that I didn't get the job. However, it is incredibly RUDE to not a) tell the other interviewees that they were not chosen, and b) not return calls or emails to provide very much desired and necessary feedback of why I was not chosen.

Interview Question – Would there ever be a time where you would ignore safety in order to complete an important activity?   View Answer
