Straight forward. Did a phone screen, then an in person interview and an in the water test. Overall process was in line with other interviews I'd done for pool lifeguard positions.

Walked in and they gave me the job, I expected to be asked some questions about my skill level and experience but I was instead asked my availability and how soon I could start. Very easy interview process, hardly considered an interview.

There was one single interview. I was called after I submitted my application and told the date of my interview. When I arrived I was informed it was a group interview (about 5 of us). The interviewer asked questions about emergencies and how we would deal with them.

Easy, very relaxing, standard HR questions. The whole process took approx 10-15 min. As this was lifeguardpostion there was a skills test involved. They would prefer if you were YMCA cert, but they will take others if you show you know your stuff.

Quick, must be certified in all required areas, Lifeguard, Oxygen, CPR, First-Aid AED, must meet with the director. Prior work experience is always helpful to a quick hiring process. If you also want to be a swim instructor you must have completed the certifications needed to be an instructor,

I applied in-person. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at YMCA.

    Interview Details

Submitted my application without a resume. I was called in for an interview the next week. The interview was very laid back. Note that I already had 2 years of lifeguarding beforehand. After asking me about my past lifeguarding job and my swim history, I was hired on the spot. We shook hands and I started the next week.

    Interview Questions
    • Might have been because I've already lifeguarded for a couple years before, but all the interviewer asked me about was if I had ever taught swim before and how much my pay was.   Answer Question

I applied in-person. The process took 4 daysinterviewed at YMCA in June 2013.

    Interview Details

I went through 36-hours of training to become YMCA Lifeguard certified and it just so happened that the aquatic director that I spoke to about working there was a training instructor. As we worked through the week of training, she asked me questions about why I wanted to work for them, my experience, etc. By the end of the training she was pretty confident in what she saw that she wanted me for the job. We had a brief interview over the basics and an orientation of the workplace.

    Interview Questions
    • The only difficult questions was to explain why I desired to work at the YMCA and specifically why I chose Lifeguarding.   Answer Question
    Negotiation Details
My boss just offered me the job and I took it. There wasn't really any negotiation because the pay is fixed by the YMCA. As far as hours go, we were able to discuss flexible options to work with my school schedule. Everything worked out great.
