I applied through an employee referral and the process took a day - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in November 2012.

Interview Details – Hiring process was seamless since the account I was working on at a sister agency of Zenith Optimedia was moved over to ZO due to a new business win. New York HR lead came in, sat with all of us, described restructure/transition process and pay scale.

Interview Question – Where do you see yourself in 5 years?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Initially they weren't budging but we found a middle ground.

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in October 2013.

Interview Details – I applied online and about 2 weeks later I received a call by someone from HR who gave me a 30 minute phone interview. The phone interview was very standard and all behavioral questions about why you want to be in the media industry, what you know about the company etc. At the end of the phone interview, she offered me an on-site interview the following week. The on-site interview consisted of a brief presentation describing the media training program and very simple math test (during which time you're in a room with several other candidates), followed by a 2 on 1 meeting with one of the HR coordinators and a senior media planner. About 3 days later, I received an email from HR that they want to move me to the final round of interviews where I will meet with one of the upper management team members. I went back on-site the following week and met with one of the presidents. Less than one business day later HR called me back with an offer which I accepted.

Interview Question – What is a commercial that you watched that made you think "I could have done a better job than them"?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation for salary as a media trainee. You are paid on a set hourly basis until you get a full-time offer at the end of the 120 day training period.

Media Training Program Interview

Anonymous Employee
New York, NY

I applied through college or university - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in March 2013.

Interview Details – The interview experience for the Media Training Program was fantastic! The recruiter did an excellent job of explaining the program in great detail and answering every question I had. After my phone interview I was able to come in and meet with multiple staff members on one day. Most places you interview make you take multiple trips back and forth so being able to come in and meet with everyone at once is really smart. Every person I spoke with on the phone or in person was very pleasant and clearly skilled in their line of work.

A few days after my interview I was extended an offer which I happily accepted. This is the most unique training program I have ever come across and I'm sure they receive hundreds of applications. I'm really excited to be given this opportunity and can't wait to start this summer!

Media Training Program Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in October 2012.

Interview Details – I emailed the Director of Human Resources about career opportunities with ZenithOptimedia and we set up a time to speak via telephone. The employee thought I would be a good fit for the company's upcoming Media Training Program. I then had an in-person interview with a Talent Acquisition Manager, which lasted about 30 minutes and was very casual. After this interview, I was invited to attend a "Round Robin" interview with two different employees: a senior media planner and the VP of Human Resources.
The senior media planner was evidently filling in for someone else to do the interviews for this particular day and didn't seem to understand what she needed to ask during the interview. I actually saw the interview scripts/information sheets, a copy of my resume and the resumes of what may have been other candidates casually lying on the table. Despite being thrown in at the last minute, she was very pleasant and answered all my questions and seemed genuinely happy to be working at ZenithOptimedia.
The VP was extremely warm and had a great personality, however she did give off the vibe that I may have been a bit overqualified for the training program. She mentioned that the majority of the candidates they take in are right out of undergrad, and that I had a lot of experience compared to the people they usually interview.
When it came time to follow up regarding the position, the communication was actually quite poor. I had to email three times in order to get a response as to whether or not I made the cut. I sent more emails to the recruiters regarding other junior level positions and these weren't returned and finally I just stopped trying to contact them.

Junior Media Buyer Interview

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in January 2008.

Interview Details – The hiring and interview process was pretty straightforward. I was recommended by a casual acquaintance when she found out that I was interested in television and advertising, and because of the incentive they offered for recommending hires. I spoke to an HR representative by phone, communicated a couple of times via email after sending my resume, and came in for an interview about 2 weeks later.
The interview with the HR representative consisted of basic questions like "what accomplishment are you most proud of?", or "tell me about instances where you displayed leadership qualities." It was overall pretty informal and friendly, and then the interviewing with the manager and VP was even more informal and friendly - where we talked about television and things like where I saw myself in five years.

Interview Question – There really were no particularly difficult questions during the interview process, although the VP did mention that a lot of candidates told him they had no interest in television, which he thought was pretty funny as they were interviewing for a job buying ad space on television.   Answer Question

The process took 1 week - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in November 2011.

Interview Details – Bad communication. I was informed that someone from HR would contact me (I thought to set up an interview) but it turns out she was calling for the actual interview. I was caught off guard and not prepared.

Media Training Program/Assistant Media Planner Interview

The process took 3 weeks - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in August 2011.

Interview Details – Interviewed for the Media Training Program and an AMP position. It would've been an overall pleasant experience if not for my experience with HR. Setting up interviews was a pain and following up on each one was worst.

I did not receive a single response from the HR contact who said to "contact at any time if questions came up or even for a quick hello" after I emailed and left a voicemail. This experience definitely affected my view of the company. There was poor communication across all levels.

Interview Question – Tell me about an experience that shaped you as a person.   Answer Question

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at ZenithOptimedia in August 2011.

Interview Details – Terrible communication. Recruiter didn't seem to know what he was talking about. Offered incorrect information throughout phone interview. Was told I would receive a decision two days after interview. Never received phone call/email. Whole post-interview experience was just very unprofessional and disappointing. Need to hire better HR personnel that are actually competent.
