    I have been working at Alcatel-Lucent full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Alcatel-Lucent provides tuition reimbursement, health/dental benefits, 401(k) plan, and an annual bonus plan based on organizational performance vs. goals. Alcatel-Lucent offers generous vacation (22 days for 0-10 years, 27 days for 10+ years, and like 32 days after 20+ years). This is for the United States. Different countries may vary. Great work life balance. Pretty much an eight hour day, five day a week job.

    Cons

    While Alcatel-Lucent does have a 401(k) plan, the 6% matching was eliminated this year. In its place is a cash account program. The program is intended to provide for monthly pay credits equal to 6% of base salary paid in the prior month. However, because of the time it will take to setup the Program, the amount of the initial pay credit is being increased to 6.12% and will be based on base salary paid in all of 2014. The additional 0.12% is the amount that would have been accumulated in the account as of January 1, 2015 had the pay credits been made monthly with interest. After January 1, 2015, employees will receive monthly pay credits equal to 6% of their base salary paid during the prior calendar month. Upon termination, you may commence your Cash Account Program benefit by electing, with spousal consent, a lump sum payment in cash, a lump sum rollover to an IRA, a lump sum rollover to the ALSP (provided you have a balance in the ALSP at the time of the rollover), or a lump-sum rollover to any other qualified retirement plan. In addition, there will be annuity forms of payment (monthly payments for life) available under the CAP.
    You tend to stay in the same position without much room for career growth (mostly just gaining lots of experience).

    Get rid of every division except IP routing. Keep developing new and innovative edge and core routers.
