I have been working at Applied Materials full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Vacation time (if you have sufficient service)
Pay (better than most, but this is salary only - shares, bonuses etc not so good)
    Co-workers

    Cons

    Senior management
Aggressive customers, lots of urgent last minute travel needed, always fires to put out.
    Too few large customers
Top heavy with managers/directors, not enough engineers and lab staff
Cyclical industry, where the downward cycles are now too frequent.
    Layoffs all the time.
Major merger is ongoing with a large competitor, this will change the course and structure of the company
Stock price is poor and not sufficient growth
Poor bonus structure unless you are in the upper job positions.
When flying with the company they only seat you in economy class, (economy plus if you are lucky on the long haul flights), no business class seats ever. You fly a lot yet you are not treated properly.
Company is very fond of outsourcing work and seeking tax breaks abroad, yet likes to fly the American flag.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on having a more secure working environment instead of hire and fire.
More resources are badly needed for the lab (research and development), and for supporting customer in the field.
