I have been working at Assurant Employee Benefits as an intern (less than an year)

I was impressed by the amount of technical knowledge I learned at Assurant Employee Benefits(AEB) this year. From minute one, there was an organized plan to technically train interns. We were exposed to GWT, Java, SQL, Spring, Maven, Swing, while using toolssuch as Eclipse, IntelliJ Idea, MySQL, Oracle SQL Developer, Subversion, and Version One. We were never exposed to these in college and we used them daily in the many projects that were assigned to us. Each intern worked on atleast two projects; therefore, it was a really good use of our time. We also constantly communicated with the business and gather requirements in meetings, attended various conferences, and learned about Assurant as a whole company during our time here. If we had difficulty technically, the other developers were always willing to help. We also were assigned a mentor, that helped guide and were there if we needed them. The main manager for the interns was also a great motivator and role model that coordinated and ensured the intern project was one where the interns can learn and grow as a software developer and as a professional employee. The people and the atmosphere is easy going and also had fun events that the interns can attend and enjoy. Hence, I think working in Assurant Employee Benefits was a great learning opportunity with meaningful work that kept the interns busy but also had time for fun intern bonding events which made this summer a great summer.

The process of getting access to anything is slow (for example admin rights, access to different databases).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think the intern program is a great program, and it is definitely very well coordinated. I think it is a great investment for the company to look for younger people looking to grow as professionals.

    Positive Outlook
