I have been working at CareTech Solutions full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Very flexible in terms of life balance. Friendly place to work, great location right off 75 with lots of restaurants in the area.

    Cons

Two words: lip service. The pattern is the same regardless of leadership so it must be a cultural thing. My own belief is that things are on a big downward trend, and there are no resources to do what they say they want to do. They're afraid to tell the truth because they know too many will jump ship... and many have in the last 12 months.

    The cycle is clear:
    1) Year after year development teams are told they will get the resources they need to develop new products,
    2) Those resources then are pulled to work on other projects.
    3) They then wonder why their product is so behind the times technology wise
    4) They then panic and push out some new code half-assed without real thought as to the features or architecture, just so something can be "new".
    5) The code which is released is junk, and even more time is spent fixing it.
    6) Go back to step 1.

On a non-work or day to day side of things, the culture here is very cliquish. I've never worked in a place where employees of other departments don't interact, and upper management doesn't really know their workers, and I've worked in much larger multinational corporations.

There's a "fun" committee, and bless them, they try, but they probably have no money to do anything. The big event for the year is the "company picnic" which essentially amounts to a hotdog and coke during regular business hours in a tent in the parking lot. Every couple of months they give you a candy bar, or just recently, a donut and 4oz cup of cider. lol.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Say what you mean, and do what you say. You need to generate a clear focus on goals.
