    I worked at Complete Genomics full-time

    Pros

    Lots of very smart people who are capable of developing extraordinary software, biochemistry, and equipment
    Reasonable coverage of free snacks, drinks, and lunch stuff during the work day.
    Parent company seems to not interfere too deeply with day to day operations.

    Cons

    Senior management that has changed the target core mission of the company about every 18 months since the company was founded.
    The business park is surrounded by Google, Microsoft, and LinkedIn, and morning traffic is terrible from about 8 to 10.
    Google, LinkedIn, and tons of other cash-rich software companies literally blocks away makes hiring top tier software engineers difficult.
    Operations that have nearly foundered the company at times, but which has changed very little in methodology.
    Founders with minimal coordination between their individual plans and strategies and how they are communicated to the company.
    No 401k matching. No stock options. Long term incentives that are not an incentive to excel or stick around. Bonus and incentive plans that are way too top heavy in favor of very senior management.
    Bupkus for outside access to restaurants / lunch unless you go across 101.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stabilize the churn in the company.
    Spend more focus on actual products and services and sales.
    Spread some more of the wealth to employees who are below the level of VP.
    It seemed like you used to level with employees about good or bad news. That needs to return.
