I worked at Digimarc full-time (more than an year)Pros
Digimarc has a friendly atmosphere and free coffee. The management style is mostly hands-off and their technology is interesting.Cons
Most small companies can move quickly. At Digimarc, this was not the case. The company has a chain of command that feels like the military, where too often, ideas that would increase work quality, organization and employee satisfaction would be shot down without debate.
Workstation policies were frustrating, an example was not being able to get a second monitor. More frustrating was that management didn't understand or care about the productivity increase that a 2nd screen would bring.
Management favors written policy over common sense and makes employees take multiple choice exams to prove that they've committed the policies to memory.
If you are a high performance worker then look elsewhere for a more performance-based compensation plan. At Digimarc, more value seemed to be placed on looking busy and being available for meetings than on producing output.
Pay raises were not given despite excellent performance reviews. Instead, employees are rewarded with company stock whose 2 year vesting date is contingent on them still being an employee.
401k matching was 3%.
Meetings were overbooked with very little relevant content.Advice to ManagementAdvice
