I have been working at ExxonMobil full-time (more than 10 years)Pros
Competitive salaries. Good retirement savings plan. Generally, nice people to work with. Solid company, will be around for decades. They will be a reliable employer, if you intend to be there for the long haul. Limited opportunities for relocation and foreign assignment.Cons
Forced ranking system demoralizes most people. Too much bureaucracy. No real research - it's just product development, dependent on additive suppliers and blending optimization.
People are recruited and assigned a "potential" rating and for those rated "high" (based on God knows what !), management designs s career path to get them to senior positions - even if they are completely clueless and maintain a track record of turning everything to dirt ! The rest of us have a pick up the pieces, make things right, cover up their mistakes, all for little or no reward.Advice to ManagementAdvice
Wake your ideas up ! The model you''re operating with is not sustainable ! You're promoting and rewarding the wrong people ! Everyone knows that forced ranking rewards those who market themselves best, but those don't tend to be the people who do the best work. Recognize "potential" ratings as a self-fulfilling prophecy, and throw them in the garbage.
