Former Employee - IT Specialist in Winchester, VA

I worked at FEMA full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Casual environment combined with flexible hours and the security of the Feds with other Fed agencies nearby for career growth as needed--If you are considering IT in the Feds but relocating to the Blue Ridge is a concern, make a visit first and then decide...

    Cons

More frequent interaction with SW DC FEMA headquarters on an individual basis is needed for more operations empathy. Also more social outlets for younger employees across all Valley Fed agencies (IRS, Army Corps, etc) would help. Also the Valley housing market can seem confusing---It's both an exurb of Washington/Baltimore and out in the country at the same time.
