I have been working at Federal Government full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Security, benefits, training, and knowing that I would not be laid off without notice were all positives for working with the Federal Government.

    Cons

The only drawback is reduction in force and furloughs. There is nothing you can do about those factors but work through them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The only advice I have is to make sure that people are properly trained for their jobs, give them adequate amounts of work to do that are achievable and stop using the words "other duties as assigned". If work is done on a recurring basis it is not "other duties as assigned" it is a regular part of the duties and should be compensated and eligible to be rewarded also if the employee exceeds expectations. Give emloyees the opportunity to grow in their job and be appreciative when the do a good job, respectful of the fact that they also have a life outside the job.
