    I have been working at Gentiva

    Pros

    Pay can be fair, PTO reasonable, training, nationally recognized company, easy movement from state to state if interested in travelling

    Cons

    Driving-if your not familiar to an area, you may find yourself driving 15-20 miles between pts. In florida that means driving a less-travelled rural highway taking you 15-20 minutes or a city road with untimed lights that may be anywhere from 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Getting 35 cents a mile doesn't make it any better. Flexibility varies from area to area-if your in more of a retirement community be ready not start working before 10am and don't even think about coming after 4pm. Having worked in other areas this isn't a big deal in the city with a younger population. Weekends-you get your same rate and it's luck of the draw, you may have 1-2 new pts to start or upwards of 5-6, most I've seen was 7 on a saturday. Pay per visit-would be much better off going back to salary. Difficult not to think about how many people your seeing a day when your paycheck depends on it. Paperwork-easily the worst part of the job. Piles of papers for each new patient. An entire folder needed for starting the care of a patient. Count on making mistakes and having the office staff let you know you didn't fill the paperwork out correctly and you have to fix by a certain date...or else...Support staff-varies from office to office. Very helpful in some, not quite in others. Would make sense to eliminate some of the middle management/directors and replace them with an individual with clinical experience whose soul purpose is to help you with the paperwork, or at least reduce the burden on clinicians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Think about retention, keep the clinicians happy and they will be more apt to stay. Regular weekly meetings only unveil more rules/paperwork that must be done & if you stay long enough you will start to notice items that are changed months ago are changed back to the way they were in the first place? Are all the specialty directors necessary?
