I have been working at L-3 Communications full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

L-3 Communications is good at identifying small companies that have good talent but poor financial management. They buy these companies, fix their finances, and incorporate the talented individuals into their pool. You get to work with a lot of very smart people working on interesting things.

    Cons

L-3 buys these small companies and fixes their financial situation. But, they don't know how to make them work together to produce a whole greater than the sum of their parts. Also, management sees people as numbers -- assets and liabilities. They can hurt people through carelessness because they are thinking about numbers, not people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pull together engineers from the various piece parts and do some R&D. Make your own thing, not just what the various pieces have done. Remember to treat people as people. If you said "our employees are our greatest assets," no one would believe you. Fix that.
