Former Employee - Senior Staff Hardware Engineer in San Jose, CA

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Usually had interesting work, good salary, and good raises. Most people are pleasant to work with.

    Cons

Management often clueless. Division I was in was formerly part of Loral, and before that Ford Aerospace, and was bought by Lockheed in 1995. We had a long history of successfully supporting our customers. Management didn't understand our customers or our customers' needs. Ran projects by mindlessly following company processes. Many people just coasting out of frustration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't believe senior management ever took the time to understand the gem of a team they had. It was primarily a hardware development group, but it was run from 3000 miles away by a software group who never understood it. Perhaps if some local senior managers who understand the customer, and how to build hardware, were put in place it could flourish again.
