I worked at Morgan Stanley full-time (More than 5 years)RecommendsNeutral OutlookRecommendsNeutral Outlook
Salary is very competitive, Technology is up-to-date and people are generally nice (depending on the team you fall in with). Able to work remotely in urgent situations or if sick. A lot of room for advancement and very supportive of continuing education and tuition reimbursement. My manager was very understanding if I had to leave for a class or training session.
Typical banking-egos. A lot of implied sexism. Still very much a "boys club". It's a dog-eat-dog industry, so that's to be expected. Some fairly unethical behavior that subordinates are expected to ignore. Too much money spent on lavish dinners and events and not enough on employees. Work-life-balance is encouraged but in reality, you are expected to be attached to your blackberry and laptop 24/7
Advice to Management
Do as you say and consider interfacing with the "little guys". You might actually get some advice from the people you see what goes on behind the scenes.
