I worked at Muscular Dystrophy Association full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The families are by far the biggest pro of this organization. So many are involved and getting to know them on a personal level is life-changing. The benefits (minus salary) are great, 15 holidays plus paid time off, great health insurance, in the summer we have 1/2 day Fridays but...

    Cons

Overworked, overwhelmed, undertrained. The work load and pressure to raise money is overwhelming. Management expects local staff to follow cookie cutter programs that may not always work in your market. The HR system is a joke. HR liaisons are supposed to be there for employees to reach out to but they are quick to turnaround and tell your supervisor what you've said, that's not the definition of HR>

    Advice to Management

Giving employees more days off does not make you an employer of choice... the work is still there and it just adds stress. You are basically telling employees to do the same amount of work in less time. Stop trying to shield our stress with more time off and offer more engagement with upper management. Stop having VPs in a corporate office set best practices, it is your staff in the field who do the work, let us have a say in what works in our area. Provide more initial training for your directors and new employees. Relying on one staff person to train new employees is unrealistic.
