I have been working at Northwestern Mutual as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The people, support, and ability to work your schedule was great and requires discipline. Relatively unlimited potential. GREAT training. Belief in the company's process is everything.

    Cons

Newer reps (<5 years) tend to be sheltered from the rest of the financial world as the company is loosely captive. Company is driven by risk mgmt products above all. Buying process is long and drawn out. Midway through I realized that the successful ones go with the flow in front of management and do something entirely different in the conference room with clients. 100% commission with monthly costs in your FR account for business expenses. Lots of driving to different events and meetings.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management is fine, but the culture of the local office has a lot to do with everything. There's a large disconnect between what you learn in training and what the top reps do.
