Do yourself a huge favor and don't work here for any reason.

I worked at Picture People full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

They are a nice creative outlet if you want to take pictures all day. Sometimes you meet nice people. You are in a better job, supposedly, than most other mall jobs. If you get high enough up the health insurance isn't the worst you could have.

    Cons

I'll put it this way- I wrote a review that was so accurate about how bad it is to work there that it was removed. They will treat you like a work horse. I was often asked to clock out and work without pay so that management could meet their staffing goals. The upper management will use you as their scapegoat whenever there is a problem- particularly if you are part of store management. You are not given a liveable wage and since when you are allowed to work on the clock is determined by appointments you will find your check seriously lacking. When I tried to report how I was treated multiple times they only made the issues worse and never actually helped me escape the abusive situation I was in. I want nothing to do with them. Things are not as clean as we're told to tell parents they are. Equipment is rarely if ever updated and the ideas are way behind in terms of trend.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honestly, learn crisis management- I asked upper management outside my location for help with my boss and all they did was turn around and tell them exactly what I said instead of investigating the problem. This only increased the tension between us and I was treated worse. Also, when you understaff your locations you lose customers. I understand you want to save money, but you really mess up your product by treating it like fast food. You want to make more money stop with the 18 image nonsense. Customers are going to private photographers for about what they could pay for us and they get more care and attention. Plus, as an actual photographer- your new lighting design is just about the worst idea you've had. You don't update your equipment and I've taken better photos with my ipod. You offer barely any customer service support and when you do you just tell the customer it's all our fault and give them whatever they ask for. You just aren't nice people and the money in this place is all at the top. If you want the younger parent generation to come in you've got to make a hip product- and right now you're outdated and you're causing whole staffs to quit because of how we are treated. I gave up having a social life AT ALL for over 4 years to work there- I finally got out and it feels like I escaped a cult. I now have friends and a job that pays better and has consistent hours- it's not as creative as I would like but I just lost my faith in you entirely.
