    Pros

    Great hourly employed maintenance team. Many D.C. employees do not have college degrees or HS diplomas, but have an opportunity to get promoted to shift supervisor and earn $50K+/yr..

    Cons

    The company has a culture to treat the salary exempt Supervisors as military training camp cadets. Working for Ross includes High stress, with impossible tasks & goals. They require shift supervisors to work before, during and after their shift. The average successful shift supervisor will work 85 hour per week. The reward and bonus is a monthly required attendance business meeting and lunch in a mezzanine conference room looking down at the hourly employees during the first shift hours. Unexcused absences will result in a trip to the HR Manager and another mark against your employment history. It is common practice for upper management to send shift supervisors to HR Manager to receive an official Ross written warning & threat of some sort. Additionally each trip to HR Manager is meant to remind the shift supervisor that California Unemployment benefits will not be granted to unemployed individuals with the negative history on file at Ross Dress for Less.

    Advice to Management

    Dear Upper Manager, Please stop harassing your shift supervisors and hourly employees. If I as your shift supervisor or hourly employee, fail then you and Ross failed. Each time you send your employee to the HR Manager, please join in and admit that the true failure is your inability to set your team up for success. Please start investing in your employees to train and equip us as required to complete our projects or jobs in a timely manner. All work and no time for family kills the most committed employees.
