    I have been working at SMART Technologies full-time


    They sell you a dream when you come on board, it is perfect, they say they are innovating and that they have great leaders from different markets but unfortunately they haven't done a great job managing the change of having to let go about 60% of the people due to their financial crisis. The pro should be that they keep innovating but it becomes a con when the innovations are not that great or can be easily replaced by a simple camera or a TV interacting with mobile devices or free software.


    The smart screens themselves are a con. They are high quality touch screens, but really now these can all be found anywhere. The software is ok, but the idea that these are helping the education of children is kind of too much to say, because the teachers and students get caught up in trying to make the software work correctly and are not learning, the smart system complicates the learning process. The leaders are living a dream, they want employees to lead the change and to be honest, but leaders are not paying attention to what people need, the atmosphere is very fake, people act like if everything was perfect in front of the leader but they don't really have the freedom to talk. There is not respect among peers and people talk really bad about the products behind the back of the leaders... employees don't believe in the products, they are just trying to stay safe while they can but everybody leaves the company as soon as they can, even new people come and see the mess and they prefer to leave and this includes the executive team.
    Besides that, they take a lot of the time of the people with many many meetings so there is very little time to execute unless you want to quite your personal life. It isn't fair that they say you didn't meet your goals, just not to give you 100%, does it mean you have to work less hard because 100% won't look right?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    You have to work on change management. You need to work on selling better software and should get out of the screen business. You need to go to different markets as hard as you are education. The company went through a very difficult situation and the lack of management of the change is killing the company. Old employees are very hurt and passing the wrong energy to new employees, more than all those meetings trying to pass a positive message that nobody believes, go and talk to the team, lead the change, teach us where we are going but not only by saying we are focused on software but by leading the way. More than words... you have to really show that the company is going to survive.
