Work life balance is awesome here for IT workers. You can exercise during lunch, there are opportunities to work from home, plenty of vacation, excellent 401k, and great overall benefits.

Limited scope in job duties. Each department is so specialized that sometimes your role and job definition become limited. Its hard to see the big picture when your work is so modularized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn the technology within the team you manage a little better. Most managers are strictly resource managers and don't have a great deal of insight or familiarity with the actual technology being used or developed within their team. Understanding this more can help bring an appreciation and better understanding for who are actually the key performers on the team. It also helps to prioritize work loads when by getting a better understanding of the actual work required to complete a project.
