I have been working at Walmart full-time

    Pros

Shared profits. Amazing bonus if the company does well. Opportunities for advancement if you network and have a broad business/communications or other generalized degree and 3.5 GPA. Security in the sense that Walmart isn't going anywhere. Associate store discounts- you can get some really nice designer goods (not just Walmart product but high end items from Sams Club or inspiration samples) and electronics for dirt cheap.

    Cons

Bureaucracy. Hard to move up the corporate ladder. Long hours. Lack of work/life balance. Favoritism. Big brother atmosphere. Lack of trust in employees. Lack of security if the company is not doing well. Poor health insurance coverage (you pay a lot out of pocket because there's no copay option in Arkansas).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your associates. Be open to ideas and don't punish people for having ideas outside of their current field. Be open to more than just streamlined profitability. Think of the human value of the people in the company. Also, provide adequate supplies for associates so they don't have to purchase their own to do their job. Sometimes a more expensive stapler is actually the most cost effective way to go because you don't end up buying 3 staplers that break and need replaced. Follow Sam Walton's rules in reality not just on paper.
