    Pros

    I worked for Windstream for 7 years. I learned a tremendous amount, and the job gave me great experience to further my career. The best thing about Windstream was that superior knowledge and effort were often awarded with promotion. The company offers one of the few decent opportunities in Little Rock for working on such a large network. I built great relationships at this company, and the team I was on was particularly close knit. I learned so much from analysts, engineers, and managers in every department.

    Cons

    The company has outsourced its largest group of technical analysts to India. This has closed many of the opportunities that were available when I first started with the company. The company has suffered terribly from upper management extracting money from the network rather than investing in it. Worse is that the company has kept too much of the management from the companies it takes over rather than assimilating these companies into its own culture. Management has tried to fix its problems through mergers and acquisitions and constant structural changes instead of fixing these underlying problems. Interdepartmental communication is terrible.

    Advice to Management

    Pick one organizational design and stick with it. Work on investing in the network and completing network integrations. Avoid new bad acquisitions. Most of all, understand that the reason you have so many customer complaints is due to a failure to invest in the network and not because of mistakes by the analysts in Operations. Stop ruling by fear, and start leading with incentives.
