Worked at ps from Aeropostale

Store Manager (Former Employee)

I worked at Aéropostale full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThey have great benefits for full time employees. Great management experience on if you are planning to move on to another company, because there is very little potential to grow.

ConsNo work/life balance. District Managers only care about themselves. They do not listen to the store managers, when they are the ones in the store and know what is going on. Store Managers do not get paid overtime, assistant managers only get paid half-time.

They are very similar to Abercrombie and Hollister in their hiring. If you don't look a certain way, they won't hire you.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay people correctly when the decide to leave the company! Care about your employees!!

Some days are okay, others are the worst days of your life.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Aéropostale

Prosdecent benefits, the pay is nice, management can be decent, fun co-workers

ConsNot very reasonable expectations as far as completion and time go, very poor communication, horrible consideration for those employees with families around the holidays

Advice to Senior ManagementTraining needs to be more thorough and less rushed. Management needs to show that they value their employees and be willing to grant at least one holiday off.

Never enough hours to get things done

Merchandising Manager (Current Employee)
Evansville, IN

I have been working at Aéropostale full-time for more than 3 years

ProsIncentives are great when you are able to achieve them - which is almost never unless you work at Time's square or Mall of America.

ConsHiring of so many young teens makes it very hard to keep good, hard-working employees - and this is what they want you to do in order to sell to that demographic.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more proactive in helping store-line employees achieve their goals.

Great first job but nothing more

Aero Ambassador (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at Aéropostale part-time for more than a year

ProsAero is wonderful in that you meet many amazing new people and scheduling works around whatever availability you put in, so they're very flexible with your personal needs. Also, giving up and trading shifts are very easy to do, so you never feel completely trapped with shifts. It's a great introduction to the workforce but not so much anything afterwards. Good pocket money but you cannot pay rent, utilities, and other needs if you were living on an Aero paycheck.

ConsAero constantly promotes you to one position to the next and the next, which gives you more responsibility and yes, a stronger sense of belonging, but with every promotion they give you no raise. There are certain positions (cash wrap specialist, visual, etc.) where they must give you a raise if you are promoted but it's a mere 15 cents on top of an already extremely low starting salary. The work itself is also very demanding in NYC as we are very busy during holidays (which can add up many hours to your original scheduling but not easy work!) and you can expect to not be able to breathe when the store is busy! I have been working here for a year and a half, and I have still not received a review that justifies a raise or not.

Advice to Senior ManagementRAISES! If you are going to ask us to do more work than is expected of an associate, then raises. If you are going to promote someone to two new positions, then a raise is in order.
You know how to make your associates "feel" special for a little while but when the numbers don't match your encouragement, you make your associates feel very bitter about working there. Give credit where credit is due.

Aeropostale.........best company to work for?? Yeah Right

Merchant Flow (Former Employee)
Aurora, CO

I worked at Aéropostale part-time for more than a year

ProsTo be honest nothing.....other than my hard work giving me around 12-16 hours a week as merchant flow

ConsI was never really into their cheap clothes, just needed a job
Ripped me off my hours that I worked for. I would work a certain time and they clock me out earlier.
6-7 hours worth of worth expected to be done in2-3 hours.....if u don't finish they give you those dirty looks and cut ur hours. They are a mini walmart. They also need to be in the spotlight as an employee abuser.
It felt great when I quit that job. Unfortunately their business will go up because they squeeze their employees to maximize profit and keep cost of merchandise low.
If ur desperate.....then I guess aero would be a better choice......just don't expect good hours or good pay.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo comment.........there needs some major changes in the management position.....like managers doing nothing most of the day.......and having employees do everything. If they don't do it right or finish, they make you feel like crap........,RM and DM needs to check up on managers too..there's more but I don't wanna keep going

Hired but no hours.

Sales Associate (Current Employee)
Salt Lake City, UT

I have been working at Aéropostale part-time for more than a year

Prosgreat co workers, decent employee discount, and flexible with your schedule.

Constoo many on calls, rude and demanding customers, management doesn't appreciate what you do while working and is just power hungry. favorites will be picked and will work more hours than you even if you have ben there over a year!(NOT FAIR!!), Pay is unreasonable for the hours worked sometimes. poor training, expectations that are realistically impossible, no opportunity for growth in the company.

Advice to Senior Managementrealize that we aren't going to be perfect at our job from the get-go. Take more time to train your associates so they can do the best job possible. Get rid of the on calls and schedule people for actual shifts so they can receive a steady income. Consider Hiring new management and restructuring it since my store has had problems with our store manager. (Associates and assistant managers have quit because of her in the past.) Store 860 needs to be saved!

Where's my paycheck?

Sales Associate (Former Employee)
Weatherford, TX

I worked at Aéropostale part-time for less than a year

ProsFun to help people find cute clothes. They work around your school schedule.

ConsI worked for 2 weeks and never filled out any employee paperwork then they wanted to move me to another store when I questioned my pay they said I wasn't hired yet.
So I never got paid and worked for free and have no proof that I worked.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave employees fill out paperwork before they work for free.
