I worked at Aéropostale part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The discount is great, but you will get bullied into making purchases often. If your manager is competent, everyone will get fair hours and you'll get real training and help. Working with a young group of people can be really fun.

    Cons

Sometimes managers are more worried about how you look than whether or not you can do the job, because looking the brand is their way to sell clothes. Hours are unpredictable, and even though you're working a part-time job, managers get upset when you can't come in at whim or need to change your availability. Call-in shifts are a pain, and managers tend to take call-ins at the beginning of the week and then have to cut scheduled shifts on Friday and Saturday when they're over on payroll, but those are their busiest nights. There is a complete lack of training unless you're hired as management. The work environment is toxic, and some managers take out their frustrations on the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to understand that the company value of "Aero Cares" means nothing when they treat their employees terribly. The disconnect from corporate to storeline is why the company is going under.

    Pros

Company stands behind their values. Pay and benefits are good. Casual work environment. Most people are great.

    Cons

50+ hours a week. Some of the upper management is unprofessional by talking about others and gossiping. You better get on the band wagon or you are not liked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more professional this isn't high school. and don't talk down to people. Listen to other reasoning don't assume everything is an excuse.

Don't work here unless you really love retail

I worked at Aéropostale part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Special half of discounts every month
    30% off everything else
Late night or overnight floor sets are fun because you can come to work in your pajamas

    Cons

    Minimum wage
After 3 years working there I finally got a raise...15 cents
You are expected to sell to customers but make no commission
You are expected to wear their clothes and the new ones at that so pretty much you spend your paycheck buying clothes to work...makes no sense
Only time you receive more than 10 hours a week is during the holiday season

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would never recommend for anyone to work here unless you really love retail and plan on going into management. The pay is awful and when you do finally get a raise it's like 15 cents which is pretty much a slap in the face. Working weekends sucks and having to spend money to wear their clothes is ridiculous. You are expected to sell to customers without making any commission and it's really annoying to ask for their email and add something on every time you ring someone up. This job made me never want to work in retail ever again.

    Pros

The discount was pretty good, you could combine store discounts with your employee discount. Coworkers and supervisors were really nice. And my district manager was AMAZING!

    Cons

Minimum wage pay. The job was soo boring. Our store was really unorganized because only two people would work at a time. We needed more employees for our amount of customers. There was no structure to their system, just put things "wherever" and that caused a lot of confusion with customers and employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with some type of system for organization. We were allowed to put clothes wherever they "looked right." So we ended up having a really messy store due to customers and not enough staff to fix it.

I have been working at Aéropostale as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

I really liked the actual designs and aesthetics of the brand. There were some really talented people there.

    Cons

They didn't take advantage of their interns at all. We were mostly there to run errands for them. And honestly I wasn't physically strong enough to do so. The offices were so cramped we were constantly tripping over things. I would get yelled at for not having the back hallway organized when it wasn't even my fault to begin with and I was trying to solve the problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your interns more. Get it together about the office space! It's not a safe environment.

    Pros

The only pros I could think of are the discounts you get on the clothes that the sell in the store.

    Cons

Management and supervisors were very unresponsive and didn't communicate with me. There was no type of training I was just thrown into the store without any experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communicate more!

I have been working at Aéropostale full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Salary, one weekend off a month.

    Cons

I got stuck working for MONTHS when my manager left the company. They took their time trying to find someone new meanwhile i'm running everything and not getting paid properly for it. The one weekend off a month? gone. I couldn't take it. Plus you don't get to take time off at all during November or December(when you want to take time off) and during those months it's mandatory you work 45 hours or more a week, even though when you hit over time as an assistant they pay you HALF your rate. not time and a half. So why stay? I'll pay you the $7 to go home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make sure the people who know all the numbers, who set up all your floor sets and who basically do all the work get compensation.
