    Pros

A career where you feel you are truly helping people and the clients are greatful and thankful for the services A Place for Mom provides. A genuine opportunity to earn a decent living while working from home.

    Cons

You need to understand this is not a charity... this is a full time sales job and there are quotas that are expected to be met. You need to be able to be flexible and self motivated. You will work with a high volume of leads and need to be able to keep on top of them. There are many metrics that are measured and you are held accountable to meet them. Most successful advisors will work a lot of time, off the clock to meet their quotas. Advisors report there own time and A Place for Mom is strict about over time. However, everyone who is successful works overtime even if they dont report it. If you think you can work from home and do your laundry and housekeeping ... this is not the job for you! expect to work 50 + hours a week if you want to be successful.

    Advice to Management

Start prasing your advisors more. Back off on the recorded calls and stop making everyone feel like they are under a microscope. The quotas are reaching saturation point and most advisors are working a lot of extra hours to make the numbers... they are going to burn out. It takes a special person who is self motivated to sit at there desk in their home office and manage all of the leads that are given to them.. Remember, it is the Advisors who generate the income that pays all of the upper management , presidents , VP and CEO salaries. A Thank you other than on the monthly advisor call goes a long way.

    Pros

APFM has grown tremendously improving training, benefits, and technology. Every company has their pain points especially companies with rapid growth. I've seen several employees leave the company and come back a year or two later after they realized that the grass wasn't greener. Several new positions have been created over the last few years allowing for people to advance in their careers.

    Cons

The current corporate office is too small, not allowing for much personal space. When people can't get personal space there is always conflict. Can't wait to move to the new office! When a company grows as fast as APFM they have to also become scalable, which requires change. The company has not figured out how to hire people whose core competency is to adapt to that change.

    Advice to Management

Continue asking for feedback from employees. Let employees know that you heard their feedback. Sometimes when it takes awhile to implement changes people think you did not hear them or did not care about their concerns.

    Pros

Technology investment has increased greatly after new leadership came on board. Vision has resulted in position results and stability has increased greatly.

    Cons

Distractions from the core focus of the company (helping families and partners) sometimes get in the way.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in the team and we will keep up the 30% growth YOY.

    Pros

Great industry to be connected with. Lots of job satisfaction.

    Cons

Goals and metrics unrealistic. Having had 2 managers, first one supportive, the other not at all.

    Pros

I was able to divide my time between working in the office and working from home (3 days in the office and 2 days from home). I felt respected my my managers, and I really liked my coworkers.

    Cons

Because the company was going through so many changes it was hard to feel secure in your job. In the same sense, it felt as though there was little opportunity to advance because all open upper level positions were going to people outside the company instead of internally. Similarly, a lot of promotional titles seemed to be arbitrarily handed out to people.

    Advice to Management

Get back to core values and build the company based on service and not on profit.

    Pros

    Wonderful, talented software development colleagues.
    Great engineering managers.
    Challenging software scale problems.
Solid benefits with the possibility of bonuses.
Lots of company growth potential that's being realized.

    Cons

Benefits aren't great (high deductible); no matching 401k contribution.
Software development division is going through a phase of high-energy, low-stability reorganization while the company goals of scaling-up are addressed.
No opportunity for career advancement, but that's a known issue starting.
Many talented, amazing employees have been lost due to conflicts with executives.

    Advice to Management

Make a long-term technology plan and apply it in an organized, consistent manner.

    Pros

There are many nice people to work with at A Place For Mom. The management staff is top notch and the experience level of the employees is very good. You can learn alot working at a company like this. Gossip is at a minimum. Everyone works hard and puts in 110%, however there is a fair work life balance and the attrition rate is low.

    Cons

There are typical small company stresses. Very little chance of upward advancement since the company is small, however you know that going in.

    Advice to Management

    None
