I have been working at ABB Group full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities, present in a lot of countries, brings chance to know many different cultures.

    Cons

Too burocratic. Even though company's policy says managers can't block employees to move o other roles, the practice is that managers do that all the time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let professionals move around, loose them to other roles inside the company. Today many managers still make employees very unhappy, that end up leaving the company, instead of letting them take another opportunity inside ABB.

Sometimes there is a need to wait for some decisions to be made before you can take some action regarding new tools, not enough place for new employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

there should be more cubes for new employees

    Pros

Very professional, supportive, amicable, proficient, skilled

    Cons

Unplanned, chaotic, small communication gaps, slight uninformed schedule modifications

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It would be nice to lay out a skeleton of a plan/timeline for the newly-hired depicting the tasks and deadlines in advance so that the newly-hired knows what to do and where to go for guidance during his/her tenure at the company.

I have been working at ABB Group

    Pros

Training and development opportunities are widely available and encouraged. Even with the current economic trends, top management supports these initiatives. Corporate culture is supportive, and the company is trying to encourage employees to work beyond traditional lines. However, with such a big company, the silo effect is definitely still prevalent. I have been lucky enough to work with a great team and meet a lot of nice people. They are willing to help and have reasonable expectations. I feel that I am valued and my work makes an impact. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given to work at ABB.

    Cons

I really have not gotten enough feedback from my manager. There is just so much going on within the company and our department. I know there are priorities above that, but I feel like I get lost in the mix sometimes. I feel like I could grow a lot more with better feedback. With a global company, there is a priority on alignment, which can be frustrating at times, but ultimately helpful. Because we are such a big company, even regionally, my team is spread out which can make our work a little difficult because I can't just go next door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to be transparent about the direction the company is moving towards

I have been working at ABB Group

    Pros

A career at ABB is what you make of it. If you have a great deal of drive and initiative, you'll be allowed to pursue any opportunities and/or roles you desire. My experience has been quite positive and I feel I've been given the opportunity to pursue any interests I have. Additionally, as someone who has held several different roles in different business units, it's great to be able to move around in ABB with little effort from a systems and IT perspective. Regardless where you are in the world and working for ABB, most of the IT systems are relatively the same.

    Cons

Any company of this size has communication challenges. In the past 5 years most of the boundaries within ABB have come down and improvements are being made. However, I firmly believe that any organization has room to improve its communication. I would like to see objectives set for the business as a whole so all functions are heading in the same direction and working towards the same goals. Too often it seems each factory, function or business unit has their own marching orders which conflict at times. As I mentioned earlier, it's improved considerably but still has room to grow if we really want ABB firing on all cylinders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would like to see more openly communicated strategic objectives which are defined, measured and worked towards.
