I worked at AEP full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Ethical. Forward Thinking. Diligent workforce and management.

    Cons

Compensation is not an industry leader, pay is around the median / average for workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider paying above the median average wage for new hires and existing employees.

I have been working at AEP full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I am a mediocre engineer and I've had several different jobs. Probably because I am mediocre. Benefits are good. Great place if you aren't smart.

    Cons

I went to a second rate private school, so I lack the engineering knowledge that people who went to better schools have.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Thanks for hiring me.

I worked at AEP full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are good people and opportunities at all levels. The benefits are good, but work-life balance gets a little out of whack in certain jobs because of the emergency response. The phone company will leave your service out overnight, but the lights must go on.

    Cons

Certain jobs, like line mechanics, have a good incentive for overtime. However, sometimes there is just too much of it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because a person has a degree does not necessarily make them management material. Just because someone doesn't have the degree does not necessarily mean that they cannot be prepared for the challenge with some mentoring.

I have been working at AEP full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The team aspect that is promoted, as in my brothers keeper... We really look out for one another on a daily bases.

    Cons

Not much, just some uncertainties of the transition from AEP OHIO to APCO...But it really seems we are headed in a better and more stable direction and has seemed to set a lot of employees at ease....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Nothing really , at each meeting they have been as helpful as to answwer any and all questions to the best of their knowledge.

I have been working at AEP full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The company has the resources to provide a good experience. They have clear goals, and are working within a very strict set of rules.

    Cons

Training has been brief so far, and they have layer upon layer of systems in which information is stored where none of them talk to each other. "Change is coming" seems to be something that is said a lot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do a proper internal review of touchpoints, and how information moves through the company. Efficiency is not something that seems to be considered from the vantage of all departments/employee groups.
