I worked at AIG full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Very large, well respected company in the industry with competitive salary and benefits. Fast paced environment with good opportunity for advancement for those who can distinguish themselves within their area of expertise with both field and Home Office management. Significant flattening of the organization within the management ranks has been ongoing for the past few years - entirely necessary and presents opportunity for those in the right place at the right time. Highly diverse employee base and continued emphasis on promoting diversity.

    Cons

Outdated technology for account underwriting, book and producer management - lots of excel spreadsheets for home office reporting. Multiple rounds of layoffs have taken their toll on employee morale.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Finish reorganization as soon as possible and provide as much communication, encouragement and appreciation to rank and file employees as possible. Provide a clear road map for the future of the organization and provide regular updates on progress and set backs.

I have been working at AIG full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Strong company that's made a full recovery form the past. Growth opportunities exist in many areas of the company and internal transfers are encouraged. Competitive benefit package. The combination of both the insurance and financial services areas of the business create a variety of interesting work and business learning opportunities.

    Cons

Regular management reorgs can make it difficult to create continuity in your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think more about the impact to staff and communicate changes more clearly during the reorg process

    Cons

With every company you have your ups and downs but for the most part the company is actually a good place to work.

I have been working at AIG full-time

    Pros

Many opportunities for advancement and opportunities to work in different fields due to size of the company, good benefits

    Cons

No work-life balance, virtually no formal training, a lot of "red-tape" and bureaucracy, unequal pay distribution among staff and lower-level management

    Great experience

I have been working at AIG full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Culture is nice - not micromanaged, relaxed, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. Workload keeps you busy, but it's fine because the day goes by a little quicker. It depends on your position, but an average employee will work overtime once or twice a week.

    Cons

On-site lunch is not subsidized in any way, so you would not go out of your way to pay the same price as you would elsewhere for so-so food.

I have been working at AIG full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work from home policy, good amount of PTO where sick days can be use as vacation days, good work-life balance, multiple business units so might be easier for career progression if willing to relocate.

    Cons

Too many promises but never happen, salary is lower than average paid, poor management, not much perks to employees, poor and unfair performance review system.

I worked at AIG full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Full benefits from day one, and 30 hours a week was considered full time, with all the benefits. I was entry level MQS and got flowers etc from company on my yearly anniversary. Which makes you feel appreciated.

    Cons

Hard to post up, there was favoritism even if they didn't weren't the best employee.
