I have been working at AIG full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great place to gain loads of experience. The pay is ok, and I appreciate the Performance Bonus.

    Cons

Worked to death. The number or hours we are pushed to work are ridiculous. I am a mid-level employee that must work a minimum of 10+ hours OT M-F, then must work almost every weekend. And work every vacation at least 20% of my "Paid Time Off" .

Performance Ranking: Although I rarely receive less than a "2" Ranking, I feel that the % of great employees forced into a "4" Ranking is not fair or representative of the actual level of work performed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce the percentage of folks receiving a "4" Ranking to no more than 5 % of all staff. We have already let go most of the true 4's.

I have been working at AIG full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Strong leadership, heavy current investment to improve systems, technology and training. Opportunities are plentiful due to the worldwide scope of operations. Market leaders in many business lines with emphasis on customer relationships, innovation and greater reliance on science and analytics.

    Cons

Current technology is poor. Entrepreneurial spirit is dampened by new regulatory oversight requirements. Heavy workloads coupled with the infamous "RPR" rating system. Can be quite political at times due to seemingly constant business reorganizations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clearer focus and communication on strategies.

    Pros

It's been a learning experience for myself. I learned and worked in various departments within the company (Insurance) Ex. Claims, Accounting,

    Cons

You get to understand about insurance, What makes the company grow, What it takes to bring the compayn to where it is today

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I fell upper management should get more involved with the employees who work under the. I felt at times that upper management does not always know and understand what we the employees do to keep things a flow.

I worked at AIG full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good Steady job, solid company, good benefits. There were a few idiot co-workers and a director, but I managed to outlast them all.
If I found myself age 60 and without a job, i'd sweep floors there just to get fully vested in the pension.

    Cons

Got laid off, company went bankrupt...one of the main reasons I liked working there was that it was not a tech focused company and it was very solid. But all that came apart....there are some SR managers that should have done jail time, but they're too busy taking golden parachutes and making millions more at other companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The AIG Auto division never really made any money...no real advice for management.
