I worked at AIG as a contractor

    Pros

Room for advancing your career. Witness several promotions during my period there. Definitely feel the Fortune 500 corporate feel.

    Cons

Constant pressure in the seniority chain. Office environment was very bland. Teams were not located in appropriate spots, i.e. some were on the 4th floor while others were on the ground floor.

I have been working at AIG as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work life balance compared to many other wall street based offices. low stress at times but when it comes time for budgeting and forecasting it can get crazy. Company pays for expenses related to work like if you work late and grab a meal its all covered. Pay is great as well and everyone is very experienced so you have help at every desk.

    Cons

Nothing really besides long hours during budget season but get compensated well for it

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep doing what your doing! You guys are bringing AIG back to where it was and well be better than before

I have been working at AIG full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is tremendous opportunity for those who are willing to do their best and contribute at a high level of performance. Employee benefits are very good and AIG has come back even stronger than before. Flat organization allows greater exposure of employees to senior leadership; low administrative overhead; productivity and delivery are what really count. Many work locations available which provides flexibility.

    Cons

It is a large organization so when trying to work outside your immediate department things can take longer to complete. The company is still trying to centralize certain functions, roles and processes - until that is done it can sometimes be challenging to find out the standard way of accomplishing certain administrative tasks.

I worked at AIG as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great co-workers, salary comparable to others. Flexible hours: as long as your work is done and your billing is on par, you can go home early, or work from home. Good part is you get to bring a laptop home to finish your work if you have to leave early.

    Cons

What used to be a pleasant place to work has turned into a who said what atmosphere. Management is constantly walking around the office to see who is chatting with whom. They will walk around the office 10 times in an hour rather than say anything to the employees. Absolutely no managerial support and you will get thrown under the bus so their jobs can be safe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop micromanaging and give your employees support. You may be the chief but you need Indians to lead a tribe.

I worked at AIG full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

When I worked there it was very entrepreneurial, with the mind-set of get things done. Full of very smart people who were eager to do well.

    Cons

A large company, with the bureaucracy that comes with that. Very focused on the bottom line, so can be hard to push new ideas.
