Top notch!

Member of Technical Staff (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at AMD full-time for more than a year

ProsAustin campus, which may be sold. Meaningful work, good team management, excellent pay/benefits, proper tools, ongoing education and information sessions. Cafeteria, health plan, exercise/training area, Greening (continuing to improve) campus with rain collection, recycling, walking path.

ConsWhile the change is in progress, one group in the company may achieve something, such as a software application, that remains unknown and unused by the rest of the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove the cafeteria speaker system for overflow meetings. When a speaker turns away from the camera or does not speak loudly and clearly, the information is lost.

it was like a family working there

SMTS Design Engineer (Former Employee)
Austin, TX

I worked at AMD full-time for more than 10 years

ProsThe hours are flexible and the atmosphere was very relaxed in my group. dress code was relaxed. work was challenging and always changing to keep you interested.

Consseemed to be less visibility into future projects in the last 2 years. A lot of people started losing their confidence in the management team. Way too managers, VP's and people not doing real work.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to find a way to re-connect with those left after the latest round of layoffs. Your employees should be the most important thing to you and you should do everything in your power to retain the top talent. and their trust.

Super chill place to work

Coop Engineer (Current Employee)
Austin, TX

I have been working at AMD as an intern for less than a year

ProsNo one cares when you show up or how late you work as long as you get your projects done. Dress code is non-existent, and I sometimes wear shorts and a t-shirt to work. Great benefits and decent pay. Onsite gym is a nice perk as well as the onsite cafeteria. The Lone Star campus in Austin is beautiful.

ConsSome of the internal processes are a bit convoluted and poorly documented, but this varies from team to team. Each team is managed independently of the rest, so there is quite a bit of variation in how your day-to-day work goes depending on who your manager is. Different teams solve problems in different ways, so it's not always easy to use another teams solution for a similar problem.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the consolidation. Communication between teams needs to be tightened and processes need to be documented and standardized.
