An ok summer job if you land on a talented team, otherwise pack up and head home.

    Installation Tech (Former Employee)

ProsGet to work with your hands. Solve different problems. Just a summer job.

ConsLong hours. Pay is dependent on Sales team performance, something you have no control over. My manager frequently favored his brother and would pass him work more frequently other team members. He also kept my back-end check. My W-2 form was filed incorrectly.

Advice to Senior ManagementRotation lists can be biased. I was the only non-Mormon on my team and was always placed last on the list every day despite relatively high-quality and quick work.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

I found that a lot of the salesman were dishonest.

    Contract Process (Former Employee)
    Provo, UT

ProsThe people were fun to work with.

ConsI found a lot of the salesman were dishonest with customers and the company did not do much about it.

Advice to Senior Managementno advice to the management.

Good money, but a lot of wasted time.

    Technician (Former Employee)
    Provo, UT

ProsSee another part of the country for a couple months. They never faulted on paying me. and the compensation was great. The system was easy to install.

ConsIts a time consuming work. A lot of sitting around. Its not a resume builder. You might have to fight for some money but if your right, they will pay you. Not to many vacation days and there aren't any benefits.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to get more educated leaders in the middle management positions. Strive for more honesty in the company with their saleman.

    Used to be good...

    Operations Manager (Former Employee)
    Provo, UT

ProsGenerally you only work full time 4 months out of the year with with some time during the other 8 months. Some of the managers care but many are just there to collect a paycheck. Great for students needing to pay for school.

ConsThe pay was good but each year they continue to figure out ways to cut pay across many positions. There is an attitude of if you don't like something then leave. Most employees that have been there for awhile are only concerned about their own hides and saving their own positions. Do not think you will advance there because most people have been there since it started and have no other skills so they aren't leaving.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you say "if you don't like it here then leave" because you know the economy is bad then something is wrong. Keep people because they are talented and not because they kiss your a** and have been there for years. You might be pleasing your investors but stabbing your own employees in the back will lead to your demise.

    Priorities all screwed up

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsFree lunch
Safety isn't too much of an issue

ConsThis company has all it's priorities screwed up, all they are interested in is showing off to to other alarm companies in the areas. They built a beautiful super expensive building with free lunch for it's employees but LAID off a bunch of people to pay for it and lowered it's sales rep's pay scales...really????

Highly nepotistic when it comes to mobility. Very few openings are filled internally. Managers are under qualified and mean to their employees--probably due to lack of training.

Very low wages compared to other employers in the area--even for Utah, APX can hardly retain entry level employees because of this.

    Benefits are mediocre, at best.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop showing off and get your priorities straight.

Not a long term option, but can work for getting through school

    Security Specialist (Current Employee)

ProsFor the reps that are successful you can be compensated very well if you are patient to see you money after the summer. You get to travel and live in different places for four months that you wouldn't normally get the opportunity to do so.

ConsCommission structure is deceiving. It's easy to "give away" your commissions to customers to close a deal. Not a lot of organization in most offices and there isn't much personalized help. They basically take anyone who is breathing to their summer offices and hope that some people figure it out on their own and stick around.

Advice to Senior ManagementCreate a real hiring process. Hire only qualified employees, set quotas, and have a base plus commission compensation package.
