I worked at APX Alarm full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – 100% commission, so it's possible to make a great deal of money. This job allows you to manage yourself and determine your own success. It's possible to earn enough during the summer to support yourself during the school year. Most sales reps get to take 8 months off every year.
Cons – Saturday is the longest day, usually about 12 hours. In order to do well, you really need to commit to working every single day (except Sundays) for about 4 months, without taking any vacation. Because it's 100% commission, it is possible to work hard all week and not earn anything, although that was a very rare thing in most offices.

Pros – Great benefits.
Flexible work schedule.
Eat free at the in-house cafe.
Massages.
Friendly people.
Can advance in the company even at a young age.
Above average pay for the area.
Encourage creativity
Cons – If you work in the call center you will deal with angry people other than that working in other departments is great.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep changing and focusing more on customers and being customer friendly then getting sales.

Pros – Good pay as compared to other college student jobs in Provo. Free food in the Cafe everyday. Nice employees who I have become friends with.
Cons – Tough to deal with customers for 8 hours per day. Some people get promoted that don't have enough knowledge to be a good supervisor.
Advice to Senior Management – Keep up the good work with the Cafe and free ice cream. Don't make non-sales departments sell products. Make it easier to take time off

I worked at APX Alarm
Pros – Great Money. You can learn some great sales and people skills. APX good stable company, especially in the 'summer sales industry'. Uncapped earning potential,
Cons – Knocking doors all summer is not fun. Very monotonous workload. APX will nickel and dime you every way they can to avoid paying out full. APX can get political. Even if you are a stud salesmen, you will get taken advantage of if you don't have someone up high battling for you.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the politics, transform into a true meritocratic company. Give more power to the managers and less to the regionals. Be more frugal at corporate so you don't have to lower pay scales to cover your margins.

I have been working at APX Alarm
Pros – APX has been a good job while going through school. They have been very flexible in giving time off and working with my school schedule. Management has been good and seem to be concerned about my needs. I have also made many friends while I have worked there. It is a good place to meet other students.
Cons – One of the downsides to APX is that they are sales oriented company. This can be good and bad. Their employment is good because they have a strong sales force. The downside is that it is more difficult to get recognized if you are not in sales.
Advice to Senior Management – Management should try to do a better job of compensating all employees more evenly.

I worked at APX Alarm
Pros – Depending on the department,
Customer service department was more lenient when it came to being a couple minutes late, working overtime, and you got to know your co-workers more. There were incentives, and some were random, e.g. you're on time to your 7am shift, and you get a $10 target gift card. Company parties are great, it's pretty fun. Customer service is a difficult department, and can be very stressful. For this reason, I think it's a bit more lenient and understanding.
Cons – Data entry department was ridiculously strict and you don't get to know anyone. You're 5 seconds (literally) late and you get written up for it. No incentives except for stupid games or trivia questions. Your higher ups are often incompetent and only there because they work full time meaning longer than 3 months (which is also when benefits kick in). Most employees are students, and therefore cannot move up, have to deal with these people, and don't get benefits.
Advice to Senior Management – Equalize the departments a little more, and don't be so strict. Looking at break times will help alleviate write-ups and concerns. If an employee is less than a minute late from break, take that into consideration. As much as one can try, they can't sync their watch/phone completely to the computer and suffer as a consequence.
