I am a Director in Global Outsourcing for AT&T and act as the chief architect and overall lead for new client programs.

Director - Global Outsourcing (Current Employee)

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

ProsI like being with a well-known company from a brand point of view. The pension and stock benefits at my level are relatively good.

ConsThe leadership is very inconsistent in quality. I left sales because the sales compensation plans were terrible and did not invent new sales revenue to the extent it should versus retention of existing revenue.

Advice to Senior ManagementAT&T management needs to make it much easier to rid of dead weight within its staff. It is so difficult to eliminate staff that are not up to par on the teams and the risk of losing headcount if we reduce staff makes it a huge disincentive to eliminate poor performers.

Its OK but It could be better

Project Manager (Current Employee)

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 10 years

ProsYou can meet people from anywhere and everywhere. You're working with many different cultures and it's pretty amazing. You also get to work with many different assignments.

ConsIt can be difficult working with the different times for meetings. Most of the people you work with are on the different side of the work and you have some really early or really late phone calls. And the management changes a lot and it's hard to deal with most managers!

Advice to Senior ManagementI think they need to be more organized with which teams are doing which projects and what date the project is due. It can be all over the place.

The Name will sell itself.

Retail Sales Consultant (Current Employee)

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 3 years

ProsPay. Union Protection. That's about it. Yeah. That's the only positive thing I can come up with.

ConsWork Life Balance. Upper Management, they kiss butt to get where they are and expect you to do the same.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe better you kiss butt, the higher you'll get.

My experience at AT&T

Retail Account Manager (Current Employee)
Pleasanton, CA

I have been working at AT&T full-time for more than 5 years

ProsOne of the biggest advantages working for AT&T is the amount of different people you can network with.
In the national retail channel there was always communication from the Director to the Account Executives.
Great opportunity to work with multiple colleagues who have different skills and are willing to share experiences.
Great company to gain corporate experience.

ConsCompensation was a big con. Felt that you were not compensated for the amount of work you do. I am also a firm believer that compensation should not be a huge factor in your work, but at the same time you need to take care of your family.

Great People

Relay Associate (Former Employee)

I worked at AT&T full-time for less than a year

ProsThe work is fulfilling, I met a lot of great people, and the pay was decent.

ConsManagement was lousy and hypocritical. It was very up-tight and we were given the opportunity to "speak up" about how we felt... To just end up being ignored anyway. I guess it was just to give us a false-sense of hope.

Advice to Senior ManagementNothing - it's closing down soon enough.

Learned to be consistent

Finance Representative (Former Employee)

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than a year

ProsConsistently proactive, and fast paced work environment helped unite team members to fulfill their roles to the best of their ability. Satisfaction in work knowing that your role empowers teammates to fulfill their sales quotas on a consistent basis.

ConsDespite having the work and educational requirements applying for management positions internally was impossible. Office culture was more into personal achievement than trying to promote team members for leadership positions even when expressed interest.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement should be empowered to recommend employees for promotion. As well as employees should be able to approach management on opportunities to apply internally should they desire to advance within the company.
