Great experience, but working in a customer facing environment burned me out.

    Pros

They have great career developmental resources and retirement benefits.

    Cons

It's easy to feel stuck, especially if you work in the brick and mortar retail store. It can get politic-heavy in knowing the right people to help you further your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer sick days. The strict point policy had myself and many other employees crawling to work in heavy sickness in fear of accruing points and being placed in disciplinary action.

    Pros

Globally recognized brand with sound executive leadership. Investment in employees is evident in education and training opportunities including AT&T University and Virtual Management Summit. Great collaboration tools including AT&T Connect and video conferencing available to management levels. Diversity is a major focus and evident in the workforce, but not so much in executive management. Benefits include pension and retirement savings plan for now with a generous match. Reasonable vacation, but beware the new hire syndrome. If you are used to multiple weeks of vacation from a previous employer, you will have to negotiate hard for that same level at AT&T. Very strong on process to a fault, but seems that it is evolving to get quality products to market faster in both the mobile and wireline portfolios. Strong focus on the customer and creating a positive experience from all consumer touch points. The network investment continues and there is increasing satisfaction from enterprise and consumers with both voice and data services. Net promoter score is used as a primary metric that also influences management bonus plan.

    Cons

Focus on process creates a lag in time to market for new products, but also ensures quality and adoption. This is not different from other fortune 100 companies I have worked for. A bit old school as far as HR process and chain of command. Health benefits are reasonable, but high deductible plan is primary offering. Beware the need for management employees to train on field positions including help desk, retail store and cable/phone/internet admin. This occurs when union negotiations are in play and training is concurrent with regular workload. Management employees can spend upwards of 100 hours in training while managing heavy workloads, only to learn negotiations were successful with no strikes. Ask about contract cycle in interview process and ask for exemption.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AT&T is positioned to be a leader in mobile consumer engagement on all fronts. There should be a renewed focus on health, wellness, fitness and personal productivity mobile solutions as this market grows exponentially along with the aging population of the world. Streamline the collaboration with contracted vendors to get to market faster with innovative solutions.
