    Software engineer

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Atlanta, GA

    ProsAbove average technologies, smart engineers.

ConsHuman resource is a big joke in this company, don't even know they are outsourced or contractors, HR don't reply any emails, they only contact you whenever they need something from you. Totally disconnected, one way communication.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of your employees, they work LONG hours > 10-12 hours everyday. On call during the weekend also.

High turnover, short sighted, and a few recongnized

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

    ProsSome very talented people
    Free lunch (SF office)

    ConsFragmented compensation structure
Perpetual state of crisis management, in a constant state of reaction
Every hour of the day is always a fire level state of urgency
Human Resources absent from the people, simply headcount, nothing more
Shrinking revenue base with volatile short term search contracts (over 50% of revenues)
    Aloof senior management

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are the asset, not the just the top and bottom lines. Build relationships with your employees. Focus on the long term future, not just quarter to quarter.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Disfunctional but some nice people

    Project Manager (Former Employee)

ProsReally bright people, fun culture to work with - love the multi-cultural aspect. Enjoyed the feeling of a startup in a public company.

ConsVery tiered organization and some ethical challenges in management make it a place you either love or hate.

Advice to Senior ManagementEthics sometimes are a challenge for this organization both business and morality. This was an organization where a few controlled the whole and good work was not rewarded. There are a couple of people that make the job very very hard.

Politics galore quick wins dominate culture

    (Current Employee)
    San Francisco, CA

Prosfree lunch, nice location, neat ideas, smart people

Conspolitics galore, self interest running wild, not a lot of fun making money off search in a toolbar that is hard to get rid of. Not real rewarding to fight games in the office and with HQ all the time

Advice to Senior ManagementCut down the barriers and build packages and exits for people that don't encourage just quick wins, find new ways to make money other than toolbars users can't get rid of, hire some real management that cares

New public company that does not understand the market

    Sales (Former Employee)
    Chelmsford, MA

ProsExcellent Benefits - Health and Dental and 401K. Probably the best in the industry.
Excellent people - Will remain in contact with numerous former employees
Good brand recognition - potential customers know about AVG. Above average technology. Has a good/great product.

ConsWith the company recently becoming public, only corporate got to take advantage, no rewards for the employees.
Employees worried about the daily phone calls then building relationships with customers and long term success.
    Little to none career advancement
High turnover rate and managers from the UK/Czech lack the knowledge of the US market

Advice to Senior ManagementThe product has excellent brand recognition, decide whether you want to give the product away or focus on the business market.
Offer Employee stock options to further support employee success.
Work on employee morale and customer satisfaction and have corporate understand the US market.

    Political Warfare at all Levels

    (Current Employee)

ProsBenefits are good, pay is good, name recognition within Industry

ConsPoor Senoir Management with no experience of US IT Market, lack of respect of US employees. It appears that all senior management (individuals that sit in offices) are out for their own personal well being.

Contast change and or firing/replacement/resignations of senior management 3 VP HR in 2 years, 3 VP sales in 2 years, numerous turn over in sales and sales management positions.

Senior Managment in office have numerous altercations. Most employess are in fear of losing thier jobs, out right openess of moving positions to UK or temporailry bringing UK employees to get support for or from management team.

Little or no hope of stock opitions for everyday employees

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to your employees, all employees can not be bad employess, lead by example, be clear with your instructions. Stop the open warfare, and learn how to manage your employees. Treat employees with respect. Foster a good working environment with a solid business plan that is explained, understood by all. If managers do not want employess, exit them as soon as possible and do not post for their position(s) while they are still employeed with the company
