    I worked at AVG Technologies

    Pros

There was a strong, positive office culture with interesting problems. The pay was good and benefits adequate.

    Cons

There seemed to be constant conflict between offices and no unified long term vision at that time. Vertical integration meant that critical responsibilities were held by people with conflicting priorities and in different time zones.

    I worked at AVG Technologies

    Pros

The salary is good, perks are good, management is OK, nice place to work

    Cons

Work life balance could use a lot of work. People are expected to work many hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on work life balance

I worked at AVG Technologies full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are wonderful aside from occasional office politics

Good pay, though on the low side of market value

Good amenities for workers especially in San Francisco with free lunches and stocked pantry.

    Good work life balance

    Cons

Departments are geographically dispersed in multiple time zones

Pay increase is low even at optimal performance for employees.

Little vision in exec teams where employees are being constantly polled on what to do next for products, etc. Asking employees is not new, but the frequency at AVG is worrisome.

Executive team can be disengaged and behind the curve on trends muddling what kind of company AVG is.

Little new blood in leadership roles from pre-IPO days stalls progress means new thinking is not commonly accepted.

Paralysis through analysis causes stalemates on critical situations and new ideas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start by optimizing the exiting product line for functionality and security...especially anti-virus.

Review major projects and their timelines and compare to other companies timelines for similar projects.

It's well known internally AVG is painfully slow at execution. Dive into why.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Excellent group of people to work for and with in my particular office. Excellent benefits package and group outings.

    Cons

Very secretive company, the everyday employees never have a clue whats going on above them. Roles have changed multiple times with little or no warning. Commission based quotas are increased every month if you have a successful month to ensure you never hit 100% of bonus quota. We often do not receive monthly sales quotas until after the 20th of the month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more open with employees. Set an aggressive but achievable monthly sales quota.

I worked at AVG Technologies full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great office and location. All amenities needed for comfort and tech culture.

    Cons

I was constantly searching for structure around best practices. It was a struggle to find consistency in this area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Post-ipo; one would think best practices would be in place. Maybe it's changed since I left?

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Colleagues are great, salary is quite reasonable, and the perks are alright. Lots of opportunities if you love "networking" with your higher-ups.

    Cons

Company culture is extremely toxic - lack of clear direction from top-management and lots of office politics in middle-management. Huge focus on immediate profits and acquiring of new users, lack of investment in actual technologies or keeping the existing users.

I have been working at AVG Technologies full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

work-life balance (floating work schedule, home-office), friendly people, interesting business trips, easy to implement innovations in areas covered by your scope, definitely not boring job

    Cons

    Management (CTO) hiding from employees...
company is endlessly asking its employees for feedback but unpleasant results are either ignored or twisted. Even such silly thing like company newsletter was renamed from name chosen by employees to sth else (before it stopped coming at all without any notice or explanation).
Preferring quick wins (and easy money) despite the fact it is devaluating the brand (adware and 3rd party toolbar distribution)

Often strategy changes (always covered by some fancy slogans and propaganda)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

listen to the feedback, communicate, build strong security company without compromises
