    Pros

Good technology, great co-workers, catered lunches and snacks.

    Cons

Good people keep leaving, either they quit or groups of people get laid off on change of direction but the change of direction keeps changing causing the employees to feel that there is no directions.

    Advice to Management

Stop the fighting at the upper managment level....

    I worked at AVG Technologies

    Pros

There was a strong, positive office culture with interesting problems. The pay was good and benefits adequate.

    Cons

There seemed to be constant conflict between offices and no unified long term vision at that time. Vertical integration meant that critical responsibilities were held by people with conflicting priorities and in different time zones.

    Pros

Coworkers are wonderful aside from occasional office politics Good pay, though on the low side of market value Good amenities for workers especially in San Francisco with free lunches and stocked pantry. Good work life balance

    Cons

Departments are geographically dispersed in multiple time zones Pay increase is low even at optimal performance for employees. Little vision in exec teams where employees are being constantly polled on what to do next for products, etc. Asking employees is not new, but the frequency at AVG is worrisome. Executive team can be disengaged and behind the curve on trends muddling what kind of company AVG is. Little new blood in leadership roles from pre-IPO days stalls progress means new thinking is not commonly accepted. Paralysis through analysis causes stalemates on critical situations and new ideas.

    Advice to Management

Start by optimizing the exiting product line for functionality and security...especially anti-virus. Review major projects and their timelines and compare to other companies timelines for similar projects. It's well known internally AVG is painfully slow at execution. Dive into why.

    Pros

Excellent group of people to work for and with in my particular office. Excellent benefits package and group outings.

    Cons

Very secretive company, the everyday employees never have a clue whats going on above them. Roles have changed multiple times with little or no warning. Commission based quotas are increased every month if you have a successful month to ensure you never hit 100% of bonus quota. We often do not receive monthly sales quotas until after the 20th of the month.

    Advice to Management

Be more open with employees. Set an aggressive but achievable monthly sales quota.

    Pros

Great office and location. All amenities needed for comfort and tech culture.

    Cons

I was constantly searching for structure around best practices. It was a struggle to find consistency in this area.

    Advice to Management

Post-ipo; one would think best practices would be in place. Maybe it's changed since I left?

    Pros

High salaries + good packages for expats Central location Friendly colleagues

    Cons

The turn over is very high, they hire lots of people every 2 years, then they fire a lot every year, then hire again. No chance is given to the people to grow. This is valid for Prague, the people in Brno seem to be more stable, but they also have different packages.

    Advice to Management

Invest in people, train them, mentor them, give them a chance instead of firing them. They can't be all bad.

    Pros

    * Nice enviorment * Nice people * Good office conditions, snacks food and drinks * Nice salary and bonuses * Security company image

    Cons

    * Bad code and code standards * Lacking in technical knowledge * A lot of hacks, solutions for the short term * Very short releases * No car leasing If you consider yourself as someone who cares about the code or the user then do not go and work for avg.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in the quality of the product.
