    Good first job

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Goshen, IN

ProsCo-workers were fun. There were some really odd folks though as well.
My bosses were really good. They intentionally taught/mentors me.
    Free meals
    Typically, schedules were pretty Flexible
    Environmental Stewardship

ConsPoor Pay ($8.00 for an assistant. $14.00 for a main cook)

Advice to Senior ManagementI was a young cook with lots of potential and the chefs took me under their wing. Some other folks without my social privileges (college degree, white) did not seem to be treated with as much respect.

    Route Driver

Route Driver (Current Employee) Dayton, OH

ProsSelf directed, same schedule and route, early start, day finished when work for day done. Benefits and vacation package is very good.

ConsEveryone at AVI works hard for their money. No easy jobs here. Slackers are exposed very quickly.

Advice to Senior ManagementWould not hurt to modernize the company a litle bit. Too much business is transacted with pen and paper that could be done on-line like other companies do here in the 21st century.

They call work .. work.. for some reason something so many don't understand

    Csa Supervisor (Current Employee)

ProsYou meet so many good people and the hours are flexible. Some days you may be busy as all get out then you have days that you can't find much to do , it all balances out . I've met the CEO a couple times and I find him to be very upfront and listens to others concerns .

ConsWeather. I drive a large area and the driving can be a bit scary

Advice to Senior Managementupper management just wants what's best for their customers if it weren't for them we would be out of work fast.

    Be Thankful

    Manager (Current Employee) Warren, OH

ProsStrong Company that offers good job security and growth, if you just do your job. HQ is very helpful and supportive. Benefits are commendable. Many long term employees, so they must be doing something right.

ConsPay is not very competitive in some of their positions when compared to local averages.

Advice to Senior ManagementSome of the field Higher Mgmt could use some improvement in basic people skills.

    Better Food Service Job

General Manager (Former Employee) Greenville, PA

    Pros-Worked in college environment
-For the most part, co-workers were very friendly.
    -Easy Summers
    -Pays well for non-managers

ConsWhile the summers were laid back, you more than made up for it during the school year (fall & spring semesters). Management salary was decent, but when you look at the amount of hours that you worked many of your employees made almost as much as you.

During the school year salary employees will work 50+ hour weeks. Summer hours are "short days" working about 40.

They preferred that you took vacation during the summer months, not during fall and winter.

Much of your experience is based up your "dining services director."

Advice to Senior ManagementOverall I think that AVI Foodsystems was a good company to work for. The hours and pay are similar to other food service jobs. If you are lucky to have a nice dining services director and you enjoy the food service industry you might really enjoy this company.

Great place to be, but a tough place to gain info.

Sous Chef (Current Employee) Pittsburgh, PA

ProsThe hours!! The hours are all Monday thru Friday and short shifts! You work in contracted cafeterias for schools, colleges, hospitals, business, and other events. Food is prepared with fresh ingredients by qualified and skilled people.

There is also the vending machine side of the company. They have thousands of machines. Al stocked daily with fresh beverages, and snacks. The food (sandwiches, salads and more) in the machines are prepared fresh in local facilities and stocked by AVI people and rotated out frequently!

ConsThe pay could be a bit higher. The management is a little disorganized. Finding info out about the company is tough. Gotta ask and pursue it vigorously.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet organized! Communicate employee benefits and company info directly and immediately to employees.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
