    Pros

    Good benefits and salary packages.

    Cons

Lacks a creative environment. Focus on current short term issues detract from the future benefits of a diverse and creative work environment.

    Advice to Management

Embrace new ideas, especially in areas like IT manufacturing/supply chain. Senior management is far to prescriptive and focused on things that do not enhance business process and development.

    Pros

They are an exciting company and industry that is focused on 2 major things - Patients and Growth. They do truly care for the patient (as much as any pharma company can) and are willing to make tough decisions to grow the business.

    Cons

They are a spin-off of Abbott Labs, a great company but also a very traditional, conservative one. AbbVie is in a fast-paced, progressive industry but as much as they say they are "new"...they aren't. The shadow of Abbott still looms large and it is a constant battle to get them to move quickly and change their ways. Especially upper management who say they want to empower teams but can't help but micromanage.

    Advice to Management

Trust all these smart people you've hired in the past 3 years. Be willing to move quickly and trust that the work is being done. Trust doesn't mean blind ignorance...but you don't need to check the same slides 12 times.

    Pros

    1. The pay was great, once you get management to actually pay you what they offered you in the first place. (Took a promotion with a 20% increase in pay but management kept making excuses for 1.5 years as to the reason the pay never came thru)
    2. Ability to work at home, my cube, or any open seat within the department. Allowed a changed of scenery.

    Cons

    1. Management and HR track your internal applications and report them to your direct manager, so they can see how badly you want to move up, around, or out.
    2. Management will do whatever it takes to make themselves look good, while placing all the blame on the lower levels.
    3. They preach culture change and transparency, but do nothing about working to improve it.
    4. The bring in people to interview just for the fun of it, the job is already given to another employee most of the time.
    5. Was personally told they can't fire any more minorities until they let go of a few more non-minority employees as it will make the company look bad and get governmental attention.
    ETC...

    Advice to Management

Take a good long look in the mirror before you go to work. Realize the decisions you are making may appear small to you, but could be having a major impact on another employee and take responsibility for that action instead of ignoring it!!

    Pros

    - Good benefits
    - Average work/ life balance depending on location
    - Seems to be trying to become more innovative and moving away from the Abbott ways
    - Awesome branding and cultural rhetoric

    Cons

    - HR processes and policies are very out of date
    - Systems are on their way to getting better but the company is still only partially investing in this
    - Need a "real" approach to talent management - not just a rhetoric

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people - give us the right tools (not just the most cost effective); invest in your people (don't just toss people aside - we are human beings!); get out of the US centric mindset. If you're going to talk the talk, then walk the walk!
