I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people are fantastic. Most of them will go out of their way to help you in whatever way they can. They tend to care about your professional development and advancement in the firm (and in your career).

The work can also be very interesting if you network with people that do the type of work that interests you.

    Cons

There are several distinct challenges at Accenture.

First, it can be easy to either feel lost in the staffing process or trapped in a niche. This can be mitigated by aggressive networking.

Second, when you are unstaffed, HR will try to force you to join the projects that need warm bodies (aka the bad ones). It is in HR and the firm's interest to maximize your chargeability, but this may not align with your career interests or skill-set. Again, this challenge is best mitigated by aggressive networking.

Third, the review process can be challenging given the number of employees involved. Even high performers can be passed over for promotion if they or their reviewers lack the rank or political savvy necessary to lock in a high rating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider lowering chargeability targets slightly or at least offering a week-long "grace period" after an engagement ends before HR starts pressuring employees to join another project. This will greatly improve morale, and it may even allow employees to find the projects where they will perform at their highest potential.

Hold more office-wide or at least functional/industry social events to allow employees more opportunities to network outside their specific teams.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    - High caliber workforce. Ability to mobilize on work projects like none other
    - Good quality trainng/development program...many avenues for skills development but up to individual to take advantage
    - Career movement is so so. For corporate functions, position based org so unless someone leaves or new role, not alot of movement. Consulting movement gets impacted by business market conditions (how many promotions, etc.)
    - Core values are well defined

    Cons

    - Workload demands is exceeding capacity of orgnaization particularly for corporate functions. Wtih increasing complexity in work, # of employees, not a lot of adjustments made on size of organization. Assumption is people will simply work more particularly if salaried.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great opportunities to gain experience at a broad range of companies and in a wide array of industries. That's what makes this such a great place to work if you don't know what you want to do with your career: you get to try out a lot of different jobs and discover what you like. There are also great international travel and work opportunities if you seek them out.

In my experience, the work-life balance is what you make it. If you actively seek out projects that have good work-life balance, you'll be able to find them. If you want to put in tons of hours, you can do that too.

The time-off policy is great: 25 days Paid Time Off (PTO) for everyone, even new hires, at least in the consulting workforce. There are no separate sick days, but with this much PTO, it's hard to even use as much as they give you.

Also, the people at Accenture are awesome. Diversity is a high priority, and it makes for a great place to work.

    Cons

The annual review process can get a little political, but I think this is common pretty much everywhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I know it's a huge process, but the annual performance cycle could use some work. I would have LOVED to see 360-degree feedback, but that wasn't the policy when I was there.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great place to start your career and build skills in the latest technology trends. Benefits are decent (pay, pto, 401K, etc).

    Cons

work life balance does not exist. up or out mentality, constantly looking for your next role.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Mentor, coach, and keep a long term perspective.

I have been working at Accenture full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Loved the scope of the work, liked the work I was doing, loved the people.

    Cons

I didn't enjoy the direction of HR. There was a huge push to off-shore to low cost locations/emerging economies. Employees with 20+ years of experience in the US were being replaced with employees from India with less than 5 years of experience in India (not sour grapes ... I was not one of those people, though I had to lay off good performers on my team).

I have been working at Accenture full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great Analyst networks and groups to be a part of
    Great mentor/career counselor program
Lots of opportunity to learn different skills

    Cons

Leadership (esp senior managers in suburbs only some) are a bit hard to please
Sometimes it isn't easy to get a good mentor

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give the next generation a chance - We have a lot to learn but learn to be good teachers too.
Hierarchy is great but it's not promoting us to do better work when you keep shoving it in our face.
