I worked at Accretive Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    1. Ability to work from home, flexibility
    2. Salary
    3. Benefits including vacation time

    Cons

    1. Not a start up but acts like one still, even with talented staff who have good ideas / skill sets
    2. The organization, as a whole, and the IT department leadership team is dominated by males. There is only 1 female at the exec level within the entire organization and she is in HR.
    3. Staff aren't truly held accountable for the responsibilities based on their titles or job descriptions
    4. Management doesn't seem to value their staff despite what they "may" say

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Stop looking out for yourselves individually.
    2. Understand who your staff are and what their abilities are
    3. Remember there are other jobs out there, and they aren't hard to find

I have been working at Accretive Health

    Pros

    Good location, benefits are great.

    Cons

There are now policies. Daily tasks change every there is no consistency whatsoever. Everyone is fearful to lose their job..morale is horrific.
It appears as no one really knows what is going on including directors

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have some real conversations with people. Don't leave them in the dark. Start making some operating procedures policies.
There are way to many young managers that can't manage. They are fantastic employees and work really hard but their managerial skills are sub par. If they are placed in a Manger roles with little to no experience managing people you may want to invest in some training, mentors etc.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You can gain great healthcare/client facing experience through this career.

    Cons

A lot of people are promoted because they "talk the talk" and spend the majority of their time figuring out how to best showcase themselves/their work, rather than focusing on how to best serve the client as work together as a TEAM.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on being more organized and having true open dialogue with your employees.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The company offers reasonable starting wages, decent benefits that include paid short-term disability and paid holidays.

    Cons

Management is disengaged from daily operations, often implementing processes that are poorly constructed and even more poorly executed. Ethics are questionable- racism, nepotism and sexism are often demonstrated by management. Employees are unable to affect any change due to personal relationships between management and human resources. Attempts to bring questionable managerial conduct to the attention of corporate management results in a covering-up of misconduct. The environment is very high-stress and the tension is palpable. The turn-over rate is extremely high and staffing levels are never met due to walk-outs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Research CCC operations. Investigate current employee complaints. Apply credence to the words of those not on the corporate ladder who are responsible for enduring the grunt work that keeps the company operating.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Senior Management is trying to turn around the unbalanced intra-structure. The flexibility of not always having to be physically in an office is great and allows for stronger productivity.

    Cons

Positions are created for new hires without giving any opportunity to current employees for the new positions. Inconsistent messages are given regarding growth tracks and salaries. Agree with another review if you know the right people you will do better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Salary banding was a great start at leveling out what prior senior leadership had done, however, the banding for salary levels should be shared. Too much is relied on direct managers sharing accurate data and that is not always happening. There is no way to know what the salary range is for a given position and where you fall within it.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

They offer a fair benefits package.

    Cons

    - Compensation is below industry standards
    - Mid-level managers do very little to build a rapport with associates. Don't expect your supervisor to speak to you unless they need something. With that said, don't expect them to say hello or acknowledge you in the hallway or break room.
    - Expect to work under hostile conditions, managers and coordinators are allowed/expected to send threats and if you dare to complain to HR then expect a full out war.
    - Most employees are uneducated and have no previous professional work experience which makes the office environment extremely unprofessional and catty. Management encourages this type of behavior thinking that "friendly competition" will motivate (intimidate) employees to work harder
    - There is a lot of turnover. The good managers that we've had have moved on - while the rest of the dolts have stayed and unfortunately have been promoted.
    - The company culture is set up, so that you can only specialize in one specific area which makes it impossible to diversify your scope of knowledge therefore making it difficult to move onto a new job that would require you to know multiple areas of billing
    - Expect little to no training. Management doesn't train anyone - they will only manage you. Coordinators will not train you unless they like you and they will lie to management saying they've trained you to get you in trouble.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire professional managers with degrees related to healthcare management or business. Consider doing drug screening on current and future employees - it would be one way to "trim the fat." Please hold coordinators more responsible for their subordinates training. Please force the coordinators to get additional training and education. Most of the coordinators are great billers but horrible at training and managing a small group.

    Pros

Pays well in the industry. Works with some major health systems in the country

    Cons

Leadership tends to have limited experience in the industry and sets expectations with the clients without understanding the clients challenges. Employees are expected to work long hours and if traveling, 80% travel -

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get leadership that has experience and credentials. Those that did left shortly after the IPO.

I have been working at Accretive Health full-time

    Pros

Flexible schedule (can work from home on some days). Employees are generally quite talented. Great central location.

    Cons

Management is insanely rude and doesn't care about employee morale. The department doesn't provide adequate training (it's a sink or swim environment). Quality of services is not a priority- only revenue. Although none of the jobs are commision based, it certainly feels that way as it's such a "productivity" based culture and you must meet daily/weekly quotas or get ready to be threatened with termination. Bonuses and raises are promised for individuals who "put in the extra mile" but that rarely happens. This company/dept has high employee turnover b/c of all the issues and is very unstable. Most employees are jumping ship as soon as they find a better job. The rest who are still here (who haven't landed a another job yet) are getting pretty beat down by all the politics and are extremely unhappy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees and take care of them, or else the company will collapse even faster.
