Horrible managers, all they care about is profit at any cost. They pretend to care about employees but don't show it.

I have been working at Ace Hardware full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Actual people you work with are great.
They actually have a profit sharing program that makes up for the weak salary.

    Cons

    Pay is weak.
Medical benefits are worse than Obama care.
Good luck trying to use your vacation days, projects are more important to them so no you cant take any vacation.
60+ hour work weeks are very common and are expected.
    No working from home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean house and get rid of most of the lower level managers and start fresh. Hire only experienced talented managers who know what they are doing. Wake up and start allowing employees to work from home. Practice what you preach. You claim to care about employees yet managers are allowed to run them over for the sake of the company.

    I worked at Ace Hardware

    Pros

Decent pay for a cashier position $12 p/h

    Cons

The management & even owners did not care that I was sexually harassed everyday. They ended up firing another girl because she started to file a sexual harassment claim. Poor poor ethics at the 'Griffin' owned ace hardwares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees and don't take advantage of them.

I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Laid back atmosphere, they let the employees goof off especially in the evening when there are only a few employees in the store. It was fun working with customers

    Cons

Co workers were not helpful. Did not get recognized for hard work and customer service. No breaks would be at the register for 6 hours straight.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let employees know when they do a good job. Put customers first, without their business you would not have a job.

I worked at Ace Hardware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are numerous opportunities to learn new things. With over 30,000 products in most stores, there are plenty of opportunities for self-motivated individuals to acquire unique, valuable skills. Also, given the inherently diverse clientele who frequent hardware stores, expect to learn a lot about customer service. Meaningful interactions with customers often develop into workplace friendships, with many customers being familiar on a first-name basis.

    Cons

Horrible pay. Long hours. Inept management at many locations. Given that the company is franchise based, it can be very hit or miss regarding the quality of coworkers and managers. At the location I worked at, almost no one received raises, and even those with 30+ years of experience seldom earned more than $10 per hour. Additionally, expect zero opportunities for advancement. Once you are in a role, you will stay there until you are dead or quit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider paying employees a living wage, offering opportunities for advancement, and hiring managers based on qualifications rather than nepotism. These steps would go a long way towards boosting employee morale. Additionally, happy employees tend to provide better service, leading to increased business overall.

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The people there know what they're talking about, young active kids work there, but there is not much to say that's good about this store

    Cons

impatient employees, management doesn't care about their customers from what it seems. New faces every time i go in to the store. Not the most helpful store by a long shot.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop mistreating and having good employees leave, every time i come in there are new people working there. I don't know what goes on, employees tell me they don't even like it.

Friendly people to work with and lots of experience gained with home repair products .

    Cons

Lifting 80 lb bags of concrete daily and delivering pine needles, mulch, top soil, ect to peoples homes. Pay at start was a very low 7.50 per hour . For the work that is asked pay should be at 10 HR to start with .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

This is a nice little company with good managers and staff that does a good job with team work and do not leave their work for others to do but carry their load. All employees appear to be honest with good work ethic and give good service to the customers.

    Cons

Not enough hours and a specific employee consistently carries mis-information about fellow employees to one of the owners. This employee is a favorite and uses the method to elevate self in eyes of owner. If favorite does not like you you will never get more than a few hours. It is a shame because it is really not that competitive an environment.
