    Pros

Loved the customers and working in my community. Overall ACE corporate is a good company with good training.

    Cons

Not paid for extensive business/retail/customer service experience. NO work/life balance. Some employees went over a year without a raise and then it was only 10-25 cents.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified people. Pay your employees what they are worth. Give raises based on performance. Stop the internal drama.

    Pros

Learn people skills and how help customers and how to build a relationship with your customer

    Cons

Some of your co workers or managers can be a real pain in the butt

    Advice to Management

Hire good and honest people not people that are always mean to their co workers

I worked at Ace Hardware (Less than a year)

    Pros

I had the opportunity to work with some very good and helpful co-workers plus they offer a decent incentive pay program.

    Cons

They have some very questionable production rate practices with no build-in downtime for personal everyday functions ( i.e. Employees are required to radio in when going to the restroom, granted no one should have to go 6,7 times that too excessive, but at the end of the day it's still of a personal nature). Not Temperature Controlled. Rodent Infested.

    Advice to Management

Under Management should have a more detailed report of everyone's everyday production, so employees could get a better understanding of their standard weekend production instead of having to question their numbers, granted those who are on the floor in management/ supervision are deserving of their position don't get me wrong, but some are new to the position and some are new to the building and people do things differently or their way i could be wrong but it doesn't seem that UPPER MANAGEMENT not on the floor Management, have their people in place with a system or program which can track or monitor whether everyone numbers are correct and accurate along with their errors where now it seems they can place them (errors) anywhere they want to, that's on the floor Management. There are really good co-workers who work well with each other there, they would just Honestly like to know are on the same page with each other, as well as with THEM.

    Advice to Management

Have work meetings and hear staff out. Work together and share ideas.

    Pros

learned a LOT of practical things about hardware, hours are not bad for having work/family life balance (never open past 7 PM!), worked with some solid, great people

    Cons

so much turnover, especially with cashiers, which makes life much more difficult. customers can be so helpless and astoundingly horrible sometimes, but other times they are sweet and wonderful people who bring you food for no reason. work can be hard on your body, lots of physical work and going out in the grueling heat. some customer service reps are treated like grunts and made to do the bulk of this type of stuff, which is not always fair. management is mixed, it will always depend on your individual store.

    Advice to Management

hire better cashiers and treat everyone fairly!

    Pros

Good people that you work with everyone seems real laid back. The hours are typically chosen and it's really easy to get started and end

    Cons

Rather long hours. The stuff you do is boring and can get old real fast. There's no time to tend something else be aide management yells at you for not completing the first task

    Advice to Management

I'd say be more accommodating to the staff understand that YOU make have to take a role and it's not because of an employees laziness but rather we are tied up with something else

    Pros

    Flexible hours
    Very easy job
    Perfect for students
    Close very early

    Cons

    Low pay
    Hard to move up
    Nepotism
Stores are not all connected (prices range from store to store and returns cannot be made on products from other stores)

    Advice to Management

It is a great company to work for, but there needs to be more communication between stores. It gets annoying when customers come in saying they saw something at a lower price online, or when the website says we have certain products on-hand that we have never carried. There's also the fact that we cannot make returns on products from other stores. Individually the stores are great, but I think Ace could improve as a whole.
