I had a good time working there for 6 years

Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
Bellevue, WA

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time for more than 5 years

ProsI worked in the Bellevue WA Store. They paid me $12 an hour to start . I was let go because I made to much money which was not my fault. I worked there during the construction recession.

ConsThe management is to young and does not do HR very well. I was laid off for reasons never spoken to me about. I was a good employee especially after 6 years at one store. I'd like to get a job at another ACE closer to my home but ACE Bellevue will not give me a good reference.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you keep someone for 6 years you ought to work with them to keep them there. I have a lot of construction experience to go with my customer service experience after 25 years.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Good first retail job.

Sal (Current Employee)

I have been working at Ace Hardware part-time

ProsGain knowledge of hardware and tools. Constantly solving problems for people that never get boring.

ConsVery cluttered back stock. In the particular chain I worked for "Frattallone's Ace Hardware" the Frattallones are terrible people, constantly yelling at workers, never giving raises or benefits. Terrible wage starting at minimum with no chance for a raise even if you have worked for a year. Managers take advantage of benefits and bonuses.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview the Frattallone's Ace Hardware stores. Review what the Frattallones are like and how they treat their employers. Managers take advantage of their bonuses.

Driven for the Customers

Sales Floor Associate (Current Employee)
Nesconset, NY

I have been working at Ace Hardware part-time for less than a year

Pros-Knows it can't compete price wise against Lowe's or Home Depot so tries to enforce customer service.
- Typically small stores so easy to learn what is it offers or not

Cons- Need more training on products, if the main reason people come to Ace is for the help
- Since the store I worked at was family owned, management sometimes really deserve to have the position they had and would take advantage of it. I don't know if this issue applies to other stores.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed some home improvement advice section in store or a special consultant to work in store to help with daily home improvement projects.

get to work with people and not alone at a desk.

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Carlinville, IL

I have been working at Ace Hardware full-time for more than 5 years

Prosyou get to learn about tools and other areas and get to help people find what they need to get a project done, and they love that we know what they need to do that.

Consjob titles don't mean anything there and there is no such thing as seniority.

Advice to Senior Managementtake the time to listen to all involved in any matter whatever it may be u might find out that new employee has the best idea or help you might have been looking for.

Great hands on learning experience.

Floor Representative (Former Employee)
Newport Beach, CA

I worked at Ace Hardware part-time for less than a year

ProsGained lots of hands on experience and worked closely with management. Gained a lot of experience working with customers to solve problems. Left knowing how to do much more then I entered with.

ConsLong hours, sometimes slow. I found that the middle of the week saw a very slow flow of customers and the jobs sometimes became tedious.
