    Pros

    - Stellar work / life balance. They understand that things can go wrong with personal life scheduling and make an effort to make work flexible for employees. You work until you work is completed. - Corporate gym a major benefit, but no gym incentives for employees at different sites. - Office politics are very low, except during layoffs (which happens annually). - Most employees and execs are extremely friendly and approachable, but some are polar opposites and can be very intimidating to approach.

    Cons

    - They invest little in any actual research data or website licenses. Most of the research is from "googling" and not from actual reports. However, the information is very secure and they had very few problems with viruses or trojans. - A lot of programs are out of date (they were using IE 7 when IE 10 was out). This is because a certain percent of employees are using programs that are older and not compatible with newer IE. - Getting anything done through IT can take awhile. - Little organic growth, mainly through acquisitions.

    Advice to Management

    - Get up to date when it comes to research reports, applications, and provide better incentives to employees not in corporate locations. - Annual performance reviews are almost always inaccurate due to how frequently changes in projects. In speaking with other employees, this held true. Suggestion would be for quarterly or half-year reviews instead.

    Pros

Exposure to executives in person is not uncommon for lower level employees. Several locations. Knowledgeable coworkers.

    Cons

Restricted travel and spending when oil prices are low. Not much opportunity for growth. Bonus program seems attractive at first but never actually pays out. High turnover with people leaving the company for better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Compensate employees for added responsibility. Promote organically when possible.

    Pros

Friendly coworkers, nice new building with cafeteria services and workout gym on site.

    Cons

IT seen as cost to business rather than improvement, lack of employee engagement, get stuck in job role.

    Advice to Management

Need to have higher salaries and flexible work environment to attract and keep great talent.

    Pros

Most of the senior leadership team of Actuant from the CEO down are approachable and easy to speak with. The pay is OK, but does vary by business unit. Bonus system is very good when it pays out. Lots of good employees.

    Cons

They look outside to fill leadership positions instead of filling them more from within The performance review system is terrible The bonus system drives short term thinking. This is a major problem for a company wanting to be more innovative. New managers from larger, outside companies are having a negative impact on the culture. Corporate politics are taking over.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be an innovative company, quit hiring outside managers from large corporations and let the employees from the smaller, innovative companies you purchase lead the business.

    Pros

Process centric, really try to support continuous improvement Improvement events are part of the culture Good pay and benefits Acquisitions allow for interesting integration process

    Cons

Constant restructuring in my segment Lack of fun, very clinical atmosphere Overall sense of larger purpose is lacking Quick to LCC source and close facilities in the US

    Advice to Management

Learn to simplify and be more agile Deselecting is critical but not part of the culture

    Pros

Good Pay, Enjoyable Work and opportunities to move around

    Cons

Company Culture doesn't know what it wants to be. I sat in a meeting yesterday where the director said to not talk with co-workers unless it's work related. Very bad for moral and made people want to work less, not more.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of old school style directors. You spend corporate time and money building teams that effectively work together yet your directors are clammoring that relationship building is just wasting company time and money. What do you want to be?

    Pros

Actuant allows you to get involved with a lot of projects and you can learn a lot during your time here.

    Cons

Actuant works their employees too hard for the least amount of pay. You are involved with so much and are expected to do so much with little resources. They do not pay well and is not a good company for women to grow women.

    Pros

Access to projects you never dreamed you'd work on, just because you were in the right meeting or expressed interest. Unfortunately, most projects go to people who, like you, have no experience and do a mediocre job. Open door policy results in easy access to any executive.

    Cons

The only leaders with Fortune 500 experience are gone...too different? Seem to prefer middle of the road educational credentials, so my colleagues aren't too intellectually inspiring. COO and CEO need to LISTEN and accept what info walks in their doors. Corporate Coach is a former broker, serves as the messenger between executives.

    Advice to Management

Drop the Coach; LISTEN to feedback and input; hire people NOT like yourselves to inspire change, growth and challenge! Benefits are among the worst for this size company.
