I worked at Acxiom full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There was a lot of flexibility in one's work/life schedule, and the pace of work could be handled by pretty much anyone.

    Cons

Lack of challenging work, and it felt like you weren't really rewarded for taking on extra responsibilities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reduce staff, invest in the younger work-force, and reward staff instead of their managers for challenging projects getting completed.

Former Employee - Project Manager in Foster City, CA
Former Employee - Project Manager in Foster City, CA

I worked at Acxiom full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I met some of the brightest people I had the fortune to work with at Acxiom. However, the majority of those left, frustrated at the complexity of navigating a large corporate hierarchy. However, offices were good, free drinks, free bagels on a Wednesday (Foster City office) and good opportunities if you pushed hard enough. Hours were guaranteed to be long; but in return you had flexible working.

    Cons

Team was remotely managed and uncontrolled; hard to progress unless you know the right person. Action tended to be reactionary rather than proactive - as a result, technologies easily became outdated and made difficult to repair - a significant problem in a technology company. Department overall went through a major transformation while I was there - communication and overall execution was rough and heavy handed which had a major impact on staff morale. Compensation was rare and tended to be given when employees unhappy, rather than as a reward for good work and overall, staff retention poor as a result.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more time in good people management - it will work wonders and perhaps bring some pizazz back to Acxiom.

    Pros

Great work life balance. Good people.

    Cons

Really just the CEO. He makes poor choice after poor choice in who he trusts. Can't deliver on his strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

focus on the fundamentals. Scott Howe was a huge mistake. He picks the wrong people for leadership. He's been a total fail in marketing.
