    Pros

Easy to apply for a entry level position. Stable job due to a high demand for customer service in this industry. If you are willing to be self motivated, on time, and are a people person, you can concider this for career advancement.

    Cons

Encouragement and training to prepare, maintain and advance your position with this company varies depending on store, but it is mostly non-existant. Favoritism is present and HR nonactive. No moral or team building structure in place or encouraged. Very low pay for every position in the store. Tough to make a living at it unless you are in management.

    Advice to Management

Offer moral boosting incentives like team building goals and spiffs and community activities. Make a better job description and clarify that with new hires and have their duties more defined. Offer incentives for hard workers that put in the effort to maintain the store's appearance, inventory, and overall operations. There is an imbalance of people who put forth the effort to maintain the store and those who just persue the next sale. I've seen that culture in about a dozen stores and have worked 9 of them.

    Pros

The employees there are friendly. If you sincerely like people, you will find good people anywhere you go. Same here at Advance Auto Parts. Advance Auto Parts just recently bought CarQuest and four other companies with the expectation of being the world's largest retailer of auto parts. It sure helped with the stock holders. Advance is loyal to the stock holders (read in- between the lines). They do seem to keep up with the newer vehicles that come on board.

    Cons

The acquisition of the other companies was paid for mostly with the expected raises of the retail "low man on the totem pole". In other words, very few people have gotten raises in any of the local stores here in Virginia. Raises have been connected entirely to what sales each store makes, regardless of the position you hold. And the way the raises are allotted, it pits teammates against one another. If a sales person misses their goals 3 months in a row, then they get written-up, and at the 4th month, fired. Area managers seem to distance themselves from the stores that have low walk-in traffic. At the opening of the two new stores in this area, there was NO media attention nor any media events as Advance had not budgeted the area for that . Training is 85% watching computer screens and thrown in They make the full-time, long time employees work around the availabilities of the part-time people and then wonder why they cannot hang onto good employees. If you want to grow financially with a company to provide for your family, you probably will still be looking if you do get hired on here.
The people who get rewarded with raises are the people who babysit the front counter, sell to people extra parts they do not need, and to those that "steal" sales from other people, re-ringing up sales that are on suspended tickets for the sales people that actually sold the parts. If you have a conscience and seek to be a fair sharer of the sales and help by stocking the shelves, cleaning the store and all the rest that goes into running a successful retail place, then here at least you will be left in the dust by others who hog the sales so they do not get written up.

    Advice to Management

People should be rewarded for ALL the work they do to help keep the store in shape, not just for sales numbers.. Then maybe more people would actually WORK instead of stealing sales. Not a rocket-science concept.

    Pros

Enjoy working with customers and building new clientele .

    Cons

Worked with the company for six years and only was given a raise three times...District Leaders have the ability to give better salaries...ask for a $15 produce quota kept National accounts satisfied and was still given the run around. Managers are over worked.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge your true workers not overworked them. You lose numerous amount of great employees. Mgt 8989 sucks very unprofessional.

    Pros

Fair benefits, Fair sick/vacation time, good people to work with, or watch you work

    Cons

Don't hold your breath on a raise, If you are not a store manager your nothing, even if manager is less qualified, Raises come from their pocket not the companies,

    Advice to Management

Take much better care of the staff that can get the job done and dedicate themselves to the store before they take other offers
