I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Honestly there's no pros i work over night for the company cause my girlfriend works days and i haven't found anything else yet

    Cons

company has a no communications with there people we work for only 12 hrs a week and when we email the supervisor he doesn't really give an answer and in October we get laid of for two months right before the holidays, management said one time that we needed to contact them during business so if you have a question the open door policy doesn't apply, no raises no reviews you really don't get nothing, no future

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is advice to the CEO Tanya Domier, trying to raise your family on 15,000 a yr, your so out of focus on whats going on with your reset merchandiser in Illinois we haven't got a raise nor a review ever, there's people who have been with the company for over 3yrs and never seen upper management, there's people who have yrs of management and no hope of seeing a promotion, tanya you talk about connecting together and winning together and that's great but at the end of the day when where eating frozen pizza for thanksgiving cause where laid off for 2 months, how are we as employees winning together when advantage isn't connecting with there employees, tanya, where all good people and we all have families and Faith in god but at the end of the day your not seeing the big picture when we only get 12 hrs a week and no support from out upper managers who tell us to email them during business hrs when we email them on Saturdays.

    Pros

Flexible work schedule, No performance reviews, no pay raises.

    Cons

Scheduled hours change with manager's mood...the managers have favorites, based on personal preference, not professional performance, and are given any hours they want...with no regard given to other employees. Some demonstrators have 4-5 events a week, while others only work 1-2 every other week, even if they request to work more, and shifts are available. Scheduled shifts are cancelled without notice as retaliatory action by manager. For example, you call out sick...and suddenly all your scheduled events for the next two weeks are removed from your schedule and given to other employees...just because the manager is mad that you legitametly call out sick, with proper notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need better insight as to what happens on day to day basis at the store level.

    Pros

If you have little to no skills, come join the team! Turn over is extremely high (over 40% annual) for management. Plenty of growth opportunities if you are willing to move anywhere across the US at our own expense. They will lay you off no matter how good you are and how much you travel outside your Region.

    Cons

If it is in a remote area, you are probably the only candidate. They often move forward with the first person who applies, but it takes 2 months to get on board.
Be sure to do some research on here for wages in your area. There is no consistent wage. The wages can range by $15,000 starting out. There is no pay raise, so do not lowball yourself. They pride themselves on turnover. It is cheaper to hire and train and new manager then give a pay raise. You will also not be able to give pay raises to any of your personnel. TURN OVER IS HIGH!

    Empower your management.

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Cannot think of one positive thing to say

    Cons

If you want to work one day a month for low pay, having to deal with nasty snowbird and tourist attitudes, coworkers who backstab and gossip and a manager who is as useless as the day is long, this job is for you! VERY poorly run! Hours were all computerized. No humans touched the schedule so you barely worked. Not even sure why a "manager" was there...she never did anything but text on her phone, take credit for my sales with her yearly bonus and eat! Stood all day on hard concrete floors and dealt with nasty people spitting food at you and complaining..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the computerized scheduling and bring some personal attention to the job. Treat your employees like humans instead of marketing machines.

    Pros

paid the bills and only paid the bills.

    Cons

They do not protect their employees in regards to the manner that their clients treat their employees. Because the client pays the bills, management really don't care and expect you to deal with it. Health insurance is expensive. Most employees are part-time and are not full-time. They lay off a lot of people and think that if you pay the unemployment, their protected, but the truth is they fire a lot of people without cause and some of the reasons are because of age discrimination, or a violation of personal privacy because clients are nosy and they expect the company to fire people whenever they want. Most people are not there more than 1 year. If they are longer, it's because their probably working in a main office where they do not need to be in the field.

They have a retention policy with email where everything is deleted after 15 days. Wow, really? Why do they have to be deleted? Because their sued often and do not want a paper trail or electronic trail of how employees document their employment issues. HR is very anti-employee. The email policy was a red flag and I only heard about it after 30 days when I was looking for an email and it was automatically deleted. If you are afraid to retain your emails, then obviously there is something wrong with your company.

I asked about the email policy and was told confidentially that they are sued quite often.

If you work in the field, they expect you to work more then 40 hours when you are traveling which will happen often when you miss a flight or flights are delayed and you are not paid for that. That is what happens when your an exempt employee. Also, employee orientation is not done by HR, but the department or division you are working in which is what most companies do not do. This means they do not cover all the fine print you see in the employee handbook.

Another red flag is when you log into the company intranet, the very top link you see on the left side of the screen is a link to report on other employees for improper activities. What does that tell you about the company's culture?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You reap the seeds you sow. Unfortunately, weeds only beget weeds. You need to be more employee centric and not just client centric. Your tuition reimbursement is a joke. The whole department has $25000 and if the fund is maximized, there is nothing left. Really? A billion dollar company or recently purchased for a few billion and that's all the tuition reimbursement you have? I think the collective equity capital companies that purchased ASM needs to actually see with their own eyes how their divisions are being managed.

    Pros

If you like working with people this can be a good place to work. Merchandising in retail outlets is interesting and you have an opportunity to work in a number of venues.

    Cons

    1. Absolutely dismal training procedures.
    2. Inconsistent support if any from mid level managers (I had 7 district managers in 7 months as a supervisor).
    3. Inadequate response or no response to the needs of the supervisors.
    4. inadequate compensation with regards to the job description.
    5. Rude mid level managers.
    6. Because of the way ASM handles their contracts with vendors it is impossible to project store associates schedules out more than about a week and those schedules are subject to change as late as 12 hours before the beginning of shift.
    7. Raises are non-existent! I mean that literally. I worked for them as a lead for 4 1/2 years without a raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'm afraid there is so much that needs to be changed it will never happen. Value your people more and treat them better. Pay a competitive wage, even to part-timers. Don't micro-manage club supervisors.

    Cons

upper management is not helpful, no real training, salary is lowest in industry, no follow through from managers, HR says has to be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week no personal time, AMS does not allow for family time, upper management is females when you question things they will replace you.
