I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

mostly flexible schedule, can set your own schedule, good benefits if you are full time.

    Cons

not getting any raises, in 12 years I was employed, I only gained $1.48 . company famous for cutting their full time employees to part time so don't have to pay benefits ie, vacation, holiday, sick, long and short term disability, health insurance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This company needs to compensate their hourly employees as generous as they compensate themselves, stop cutting your full time employess, this is so they can save on their benefits because they are so greedy they want more for themselves ie, bonuses, commissions from the work of their employees.

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time for less than a year

    Pros

There are a lot of outgoing and friendly people, and the sales roles allow for flexible schedules. Most associates are great team players and willing to assist on projects, answer questions and provide insight.

    Cons

It seems like the vast majority of associates are spread too thin and not being fairly compensated for everything on their plates. Most people have a single title but are really doing the jobs of three or more.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

As mergers and acquisitions continue to happen, it would be nice to hire more employees on as new companies are becoming integrated. New business shouldn't automatically mean more work with no additional compensation for all of the existing employees.

Current Employee - Event Specialist in Edgewood, NM

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I am an event specialist. It is fun and usually different for every event. I am able to use my personality within the guidelines of the company policies. If you want time off, you just put it on the calendar and there is no pushback.

    Cons

Sometimes you can go for a week or more without an event. The event specialist position is not a good one in this area for a steady income. There have been times when my product was not at the store and I didn't get to work all day. It is sometimes hard to get my supervisor to answer phone calls or emails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would like to see some sort of program to make sure the events lined up with what was in the store.

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Consistent hours and territory; learn as you go; interesting team members. The company was awarded a large contract & will have lots of positions starting this fall.

    Cons

The overall process was disorganized - training website either down or unable to load; pay for training specified but not compensated for all the down time caused when the website kicks you out or doesn't record test results, etc. Virtually no on-site training from an ASM employee making it difficult to understand time reporting that affects pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistency is vital to keeping good employees - merchandisers are generally self-regulated but need some guidance as to website quirks & other company specific tools. Don't rely on your help desk to fix everything - be more engaged with the process.

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time for more than a year

    Pros

We get paid hourly to sell products to people and not by commission, which is nice because I hate the "in your face" type of selling that is needed if you are paid by commission. This is a fun job if you like talking to people, learning and teaching people about products, and working in a sort of "laid back" workplace. This is a great job for someone who doesn't need a whole lot of hours, or someone who has another job. The shifts are pretty reasonable times. Usually 11:15am to 5:45pm but sometimes start as early as 10:15am and also as late as 12:15pm.

    Cons

Only having one 30 min break a day, is not ideal but I can live with it. Sometimes the way we get scheduled for hours seems flawed, they have us as full time employees but the hours are only close to full time if it is around a holiday. Some weeks we have four or five days and the next weeks we might have only one or no days at all. It's not a steady pay check, which can be difficult at times. Not too many benefits. The starting pay is the pay we always get unless we become a lead, or become Food Safety Certified and both get us a fifty cents raises each.

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Steady work, steady pay, some good peers and decent training.

    Cons

Most managers are positive, but theirs always one in the bunch who has it out for you. Your just a number and replaceable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You hired the employees for a reason, because they are qualified. Managers who over see teams, need to stop being so nit-picking. I worked there for 5 years until one woman became my manager and all of the sudden nothing I could do was right. Wasn't me who needed to be retrained, it was her!

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Long lasting business, able to adapt to changes in market. Well thought out benefits plan, and flexible time off for both vacation and illness.

    Cons

Stagnation. I could end it in that one word. The only reason I lasted at the company as long as I did was a shifted whole departments. There is little to no upward/sideways movement in the company. They hire for the position and nothing more. Aspire for management? Hope to hell you hired into it, otherwise good luck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seriously consider opening opportunities for advancement for those that show the ambition. I left after 10 years because I finally realized I was going to be better off advancing my life elsewhere.

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time for more than a year

    Pros

For part-time, unskilled labor, this Demo job was fairly easy and paid pretty well. I liked that I never had to work for longer than 6.5 hours from late morning, and that I got a guaranteed 30 -minute break with two 10-minute breaks. The customers could be annoying sometimes, but generally they were manageable. The coworkers were pretty nice too.

    Cons

The local manager was just too much. Plus, the job is very weekend intensive; expect to work every Saturday in addition to a Friday or Sunday every week (sometimes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to calm down and stop sweating the workers; oftentimes these products sell themselves. At other times, a happy worker can sell these products; but if the workers are not happy, then they won't sell as well.

    Pros

You meet a diverse set of people. Could be worth it if you work long enough to gain speed

    Cons

Long work hours at peak periods, poor work coordination, wasted time on non work activities, poor staff welfare and remuneration

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better remuneration and protection of workers should be considered
