I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you can be satisfied with your starting salary, then this may suit you, as it will not change much. I worked for them for over 10 years and was actually making the same pay when I left as when I started. The industry changes and they follow suit. They started with a gas card and car allowance, changed to a cents per mile that doesn't cover your expenses. They went from a 30 minute and 20 mile personal commute time, to and hour and 40 miles. They do not contribute to your 401K until the end of the year, thereby if you do not complete the year, no contribution as well as any money you could have made on the investment.

    Cons

Most positions went to carrying around and I-Pad, very cumbersome and you are unable to set it down at all. I had accrued 4 weeks of vacation time but, could barely get any time off approved. I also had to forfeit what was already accrued when I gave notice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay for experience, give people their time off and benefits.

    Pros

    If part-time wanted, decent job.

    Cons

Micromanagement hampers the good worker. Largeness of workforce compels company to address poor workers to the disadvantage of good employees.

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

No micromanaging. Decent pt pay. Easy work

    Cons

Sometimes the demos get cancelled due to errors. Hope you don't have a problem and have to contact your DM, as they are hard to get hold of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell dm's not to scold employees like they are children. In day to day life, some of us have higher position jobs than you, yet don't speak to others the way you do to the people on your teams.

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Flexibility. Ability to work independently for the most part. Opportunities to move around if you are willing to move out of your area.

    Cons

Autocratic management style. Middle to lower level management and front line reps have little to no say on what works best. Very few raises and low pay (but may be industry competitive).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your subordinates. You just might learn something.

I have been working at Advantage Sales and Marketing part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Work on your own, I sometimes went months without seeing my District Manager.

Meet new people every day, you're able to gain contacts and possibly have an upper hand at employment at the store you demo at if needed.

Lenient scheduling, often you can swap days with someone or have your DM move your event from one day to another.

    Nice side job.

I had the pleasure of working with a wonderful DM.

    Cons

Nobody can survive on the amount of money an Event Specialist makes. You'll either have to be married to a person who works, drawing social security, or be living with your parents.

The company is very wasteful with excess food/supplies leftover from events.

    No advancement.

    Hours are very indefinite.

Sometimes you'll make $120 in a two week paycheck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When I became employed by ASM I was told I would be working between 14-25 hours per week. On my schedule I currently have zero hours for two weeks in a row. I was not told of how some weeks I would not be scheduled and it was very misleading. Tell future employees of the real situation. ASM is a thriving company bringing in around 1.4 BILLION dollars per year with only 30,000 associates. Event Specialists bring in the sales but will be shafted.

    Pros

You mostly get to work alone and solve things on your own.

    Cons

You are alone, the only way to get ahold of a manager for questions is via cell phone or email.
