Former Employee - Recruiter in Eden Prairie, MN

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

absolutely no pro's came out of this position.

    Cons

Every day in the Eden Prairie office was like re-training on how to do everything, and a constant flow of confusion. There was absolutely no opportunity to maintain goals set by upper management due to this confusion.
We were promised permanent employment after 90 days, most people's temporary employment status was never changed over, therefore, they weren't paid holiday/granted requested time off.
The office Manager (who the Recruiters didn't even report to) had constant complaints regarding the new Recruiters in the office; we were not welcomed there at all. To top it off, we were restricted access to office supplies without her approval.
We lost our local Recruiting Manager a couple months into the job, and 5 additional people a couple of weeks after her. Everyone was trying their hardest to satisfy unattainable demands. I would NOT recommend this job opportunity to ANYONE. It was an absolute nightmare!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone from California needed to train the Eden Prairie staff.

I worked at Advantage Sales and Marketing full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

After seven years with the company, I don't have any pros. Time eroded ant that existed to begin with.

    Cons

Lack of support for the field reps, the constant lies the reps are fed just so they continue to do the work, and total disregard for any value of the employee as an individual and the value that they posess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None; the management is trained to do just exactly what they are doing: nothing. As long as part of the job is completed, they are ahead of the game. Without the reps doing the work they do, nothing would get done. The company simply doesn't care.

    Pros

Loved my co-workers. Resigned.......just had enough of poor management and rude customers.

    Cons

No support from supervisor who was a terror. Rude customers. Threatened termination if goals were not met, but goals were never given to staff. Had no idea how many units were expected to be sold. Rude customers. Had food thrown at me, cursed at, had dogs sitting on my cart, people eating at carts for 6 hours a day (same customers who graze all day long). No support from supervisor who was a terror. Rude customers. I could write a book about the trials and tribulations of a demo person. It could be a comedy!

    Pros

I broke even, I guess....if you want to work a few hours a week and it fits your schedule, go for, they will hire you immediately, but the 1 and 2 star reviews was my experience.

    Cons

Low pay with high expectations, you need your own car, computer, internet, printer. I thought the low pay would be balanced out by a flexible schedule, but was wrong...You pay for an I9 notarization, gas to drive back and forth to a drug test and training with no reimbursement. My first few assignments were not worth it, by the time I paid for more gas and sat in traffic....I was clearing virtually no money.....ie - drive 15 miles to Walgreens to work for 1 and 15 minutes...really. .... I cut my losses quickly...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not even sure why they hired me, maybe HR is on quota? Offer more work, my first 2 weeks I only worked 3 hours.... I actually might have lost money working for Take Advantage .... they really don't understand or care....so I quit....

    Pros

You're not directly supervised. Don't expect too much from this company.

    Cons

I was told I would be having 20-25 hours per week, I only had one 4-day week, and that was during the holidays. When I was a new employee I had 3-day weeks every week for about a month. Now I'm lucky if I get even 1 day. Too many people were hired so no one has enough work. My manager manages over 200 people. This is ridiculous. I spend more money on gas traveling to stores than anything else. If you're going to have me drive 15 miles away, then pay for compensation. The pay is low for the amount of hours when I do have work. The first opportunity I get to get out, I'm taking it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit hiring so many people.

    Pros

Amazing DRT Retail Recruiters. DRT management team very supportive.

    Cons

Talented, hardworking recruiters are completely overworked and are highly unappreciated. New management has unrealistic expectations. Doesnt care to hear from the DROs themselves that expectations are too high. Too much administrative work. Reports. Reports. Reports.

How are recruiters expected to provide effective staffing efforts if all they do is respond to emails to Sr. Management requesting reports and numbers that can be easily run by HRMS? Good recruiters are being let go due to "performance" but being classified as part of a "reduction". If it was part of a reduction, then why are RECRUITER opportunities posted on Glassdoor or Linkedin?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management shouldnt be hiring friends for the sake of hiring them. Clearly, they are doing a bad job, considering TA is looked at as a joke from a company standpoint.

    Pros

Schedule to fit your schedule, Since there is no communication with management no one oversees your work.

    Cons

Never meet anyone in management from the company, poor communication and doubling up on opportunities only to arrive and find out the job has been completed even though you we assigned.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time and review your practices.

    Pros

Flexible, good for a second job to fill in hours with your other and better job that's to say that you have one.

    Cons

No raises, no promotions, crappy attitude from employees, no recognition, don't expect this to be a career cause you could probably have a better time working at McDonalds. You gotta buy your own supplies (pens, pencils, tape measures, etc.) This job will wear out your knees if you dont have knee pads which the company wont provide.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Money grubbers lining the pockets of higher ups. Merchandisers do all the hard work and get paid moot. Something really wrong with a company when it ignores their employees.

    Pros

Work Independently. Your Direct Manager can make or break your experince.

    Cons

Micro Managment when it comes to daily operational decisions. If you are not liked, or missing a vagina, you will not get ahead. Senior Managment sleeps around with female employees. No raises since 2011.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look elsewhere. We have lossed 30% Managment each year since 2009 and now in 2013 we lossed 42%.

    Pros

I have no "Pros" to share for working for ASM based on my experience.

    Cons

    * No investment into employees: training, career advancement, etc.
    * Pay for work expected is extremely unbalanced for Retail Sales Merchandiser and Retail Sales Manager
    * ASM is more interested in clients needs and wants then its own employees
    * High Turn Over

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want quality employees that produce quality work for a career track, invest in your employees training, pay, and benefits.
